world champion decklists / very brief TR

By finitesquarewell, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

hey everyone,

because it's looking less likely that i'll have time at any point in the near future to get around to writing the world champion tourney report i had hoped to write in the wake of gencon, i've gone ahead and posted my decklists from worlds on tzu-mainn's site as i realize they're quickly becoming irrelevant. links below.

baratheon/rush, 3rd place in the worlds melee

lannister/"hyperkneel", 5-0 in swiss/2nd place overall in the worlds joust

i can't remember what the seventh plot in the baratheon melee deck was; whatever it was, it sucked and should have been valar. it was a huge mistake on my part to switching valar out for whatever that useless seventh plot was before the tournament, and did so against the corey faherty's strong advice. i paid for the choice later, and had to resort to sneaky table talk to find out who had valar so as to be able to use varys/summoning season as a reset later in the game.

in the joust, the lannister deck went undefeated in swiss, beating (in order):

1. kevin mcclure (MO, lannister/shadows)

2. rob jones (TN, greyjoy/winter)

3. greg atkinson (MO, greyjoy/winter; eventual joust champion)

4. justin fox (MO, baratheon/lots of attachments and anti-shadows stuff)

5. corey faherty (DC/VA, identical deck to my own; he conceded before the round began)

then, in the elimination rounds:

semi-final: win against matt ley (WA, lannister/looked kinda like my deck)

final: loss against greg atkinson

i'll save some joust analysis for later. i also intend to post my world legacy champion deck when LUke tells me what exactly was in it, haha. it was lannister/kingsguard power rush/trait manipulation, handed to me by LUke about 2 hours before the tournament. i kind of had to learn what was in it as the rounds went on, but in each game i came to rely on the fact that luke had packed a solution to whatever problems i encountered and enough search to go digging for those solutions. i also found out quickly how potent a combo ITLP ser ilyn and the joffrey that makes everyone strength -1 can be.

props for various AGOT community members:

corey faherty, for building and tweaking most the decks i play (i just can't build decks like corey can)

dan strouhal, for getting me started on the game and being an awesome playtesting partner

the whole DC meta, for being the DC meta, including myself, dan, corey, casey campbell, aaron powell, and steve kuennen

luke reed, for spiritual support, deck advice, and bringing wisconsin brats when he came to stay in DC for the kingsmoot

greg atkinson, for useful strategy talk via AIM over the summer and for the outstanding games during the two days of worlds

~the MO meta, for aspiring to the glory and renown of the DC meta :-P

rob jones, for coming from TN to get schooled by the DC once every month or two when he's in town for work and making a fun time of it

nate french, for designing the awesome king's landing cycle and thus helping me to care about the game again after the ravens cycle, and for letting me submit a disgusting world champion card design that you all will see sometime next year ;-)
