Raider release article

You can have only one copy of a card on a ship that has Limited on the card. There is one of each type there. So, you can have one of each Limited Card, but not two of one, since it says Limited. It limits the card, not other cards with Limited text.

Wow! I am really digging those Raider builds! However, I do have some questions.

OK, this one isn't a question, just a comment: this is my least favorite of the builds. I can see it being effective, in certain situations, but Epic play tends to be Rebel vs. Imperial, and Rebels tend to have more shields, meaning Vader will be doing 2 damage to his craft just to take shields off. On the other hand, it's the cheapest of the squads at 127 points, so there's a bit more to devote to the fighters, which will probably rush ahead to start stipping shields before they close range with the Impetuous. The neat thing about Vader is that you'd be able to decide which section to damage, correct?

Ok, next one.

134 points of shield-regenerating goodness. It seems to be a typical (or at least expected) build for the Instigator. I just wonder why Gunnery Team is there. It sticks out like a sore thumb in an otherwise clearly defensive squad. I've only used it a few times and it seemed like an energy sink. I'd rather see an Engineering Team for more energy, and thus more shields.

Lastly.

I like this one a lot. Sitting at 135 squad points, I'd totally run it. Quad Laser Cannons obviously take advantage of Tactician, and so does Slicer Tools. With such dangerous close-range attacks, the Rebels will want to keep their distance, allowing the Assailer's special ability to kick in to grant more defense. Captain Needa...I'm so excited to see an Imperial captain, but I don't know. I think he is awesome when paired with Engineering Team because you don't want to have to bank to avoid asteroids.

Last thought. Why does every single build have Quad Laser Cannons on the fore section? I'm guessing that's to keep enemy ships out of range 1, but range 1 on the fore section is a dangerous place for a small ship. I'd rather Ion Cannon Battery to keep the most threatening ships at long range.

I'd rather see Vader on a shield regen build. Take two hits and then get them back...

Good call. You'd still deal a ton of damage to yourself if you used Vader more than once per turn, though.

I want to use Vader to deal 8 crits in a single turn (using the quad lasers that shoot again if you miss, and gunner on the primary shot). Not worth the 16 damage you due to yourself, you say? Hogwash! You'll still have 10 hull remaining.

In the article, they show the aft ion cannon batteries shooting twice, but then they don't list any build with two ion cannon batteries in the aft. Can you shoot twice with the same secondary weapon as long as you have energy? Or you need to have two of the same equipped to be able to do that?

I'm not sure I'm sold on the Instigator build, unless you use it as a ramming device. It lacks... focus.

If you want Tarkin, I'd build the Raider into a C&C vessel, with a Fleet Officer or Weapons Engineer and Sensor Team to assist Vessery or somesuch.

This, I think, might prove to be pretty hardhitting;

Raider-class Corvette (Fore) (50)
Ion Cannon Battery (6)
Engineering Team (4)
Tibanna Gas Supplies (4)
Raider-class Corvette (Aft) (50)
Grand Moff Tarkin (6)
Weapons Engineer (3)
Ion Cannon Battery (6)
Sensor Team (4)
Backup Shield Generator (3)
Impetuous (3)
"Deathrain" (26)
Enhanced Scopes (1)
Extra Munitions (2)
Cluster Mines (4)
Proximity Mines (3)
Colonel Vessery (35)
Push the Limit (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
Onyx Squadron Pilot (32)
Ion Cannon (3)
Proton Rockets (3)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
Onyx Squadron Pilot (32)
Ion Cannon (3)
Proton Rockets (3)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
Total: 299

Then again, it's not their job to provide us with the best lists ever designed of course. :P.

No, that's a separate Raider build that they didn't cover. The two cards next to the aft section indicate that two separate Ion Cannon Batteries are equipped to the aft section. Good question, though.
