TLT and Xizor

By R4B2, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Apologies if this has been posted already but I searched the rules thread and couldn't find an answer.

Does Xizor's ability trigger against TLT. The way they both read it seems like no. In which case, the Prince is really going to suffer from the rise of the twin laser turret meta.

The [Hit] and [Crit] results would be canceled by Twin Laser Turret before he suffered them, which is when his ability triggers, so no.

Twin Laser Turrets are a pretty persistent threat, but the lack of a Range 1 attack is a big vulnerability against anything with repositioning actions though. Xizor gets close enough and they won't attack at all. Autothrusters helps too.

Thanks, that's how I read it as well, that he would take the damage.

I agree his agility die + autothrusters and ability to reposition should help, but of the "arc dodgers" he appears particularly brittle against the new turret.

That turned up several times before. With DTF or Xizor as the defender. The attacker has a ion weapon or the new TLT.

The defender suffers damage as per the weapon card ability. Everybody agrees on that.

The friend may or may not suffer damage defined by the DTF/Xizor ability.

Short version

There is no consensus.

Not quite so short version

Here is one of many interpretations:

Both abilities trigger when the fact is established that the defender is hit. Both players want to use one ability each and they resolve simultaneously, i.e. they resolve in order of initiative. Assume the defender has initiative. Xizor resolves first, his friend suffers damage. (*) After that ion/TLT resolves.

(*) This assumes the damage from DTF/Xizor comes from the card ability and not from the deal damage step of the combat sequence. There is no consensus regarding this detail.

Just about every other interpretation results in DTF/Xizor effectively doing nothing.

Long version

See next 20 posts.

See FAQ entry for: "Prince Xizor"

"Prince Xizor’s ability triggers when he is hit by an attack. A ship that suffers damage from Prince Xizor’s ability is not considered hit by an attack.
If Prince Xizor is hit by an attack with an effect that triggers upon being hit and cancels dice results (such Ion Cannon, Ion Cannon Turret, Flechette Cannon, or Ion Pulse Missiles), he cannot use his ability and must suffer the effect of that card."
Twin laser turrets seem to fall in that cathegory.

Seems like I missed that in the latest FAQ.
