Help buying Talisman

By pirateclem2, in Talisman

I have not played Talisman since the original 1st or 2nd ed., not sure which. Anyway, I have wanted my own copy for years but the old ones are impossible to find and rediculously expensive. I thought there was a chance when 4thed came out then I heard that the company making it was going out of business. So, that brings me to 4th ed. revised. So, how does this compare to the original? Does it look like the current publisher will keep with it? How many expansions are avialable, and are they worth getting too?

TIA!

Also, if I go forward, where is a good place to get a copy online?

I am pretty sure that this is eventually going to be the best version of the game to own. FFG is a great company and the game is in excellent hands with them. In fact, I can think of no one better to have it. There is already 2 expansions with a 3rd one on the way and probably many, many more in our future. FFG has been releasing expansions that include a lot of the old cards from 1e/2e but also a lot of brand new cards. My hope is we eventually end up with most cards/characters from the older editions, along with a TON of new stuff to make this the ultimate edition for all-time. So yes, I would say save your money and instead of buying the old ones, invest in this 4.5 edition. It's worth it!

And thanks FFG!

yep yep...everything he said! aplauso.gif

Agreed that its worth the investment... and would likely cost you less that buying old stuff from private sellers / collectors.

Talisman, with the current expansions (Dungeon & Reaper) is really a good game now, and probably just getting better !

I'm also REALLY happy with FFG, and end up buying all things related to Warhammer & Talisman & Descent they produce these days. Looking forward to the new Warhammer role play set. And of course the coming Talisman expansions, though my gaming table hits the limit with next board expansion...

Did You guys realize, that Maelstrom is now selling Talisman ? That is really good news for us getting our pay checks on euros.

As you get old like me, you try to keep away from the floor, luckily I own a corporate size table and have lots of room on it for expansion...

No space issues in my side, bring on more expansion..... demonio.gif

Cheers

P.S. 1 table is good, but 2 is better for some game!!!

Yea, having just turned 50, the floor is starting to win over me more and more... an its not just the size of the table but the room for it. Dinningroom and livingroom have little space for a double table... if we don't want to stand all night.

Ha Ha!! Thanks, you just reminded me of a scene from "attack of the killer tomatoes" where people had to actually walk on the table to get in or out of the room (not mentioning squeazing in or out of their chairs too) gran_risa.gif

On the other side, I hope you eventually find a solution to accomodate the space you have with what Talisman will need in the future at this rate!

And my hats off to you for playing on the floor at 50, being not too far from 50 myself, I've banned playing on the floor a long time ago and took step for it to never happen again with any of my games.

Cheers

Oh man, killer tomatoes! I hope some of these youngster know that one, otherwise we're just showing up our age even worse.

Well well, pet bunny, the fact that our games are split over several days (I play with my kids), and wife all combined makes this specific spelling a bit dangerous thing... No worry though, I have a 6 * 4 feet warhammer table in my garage, so we'll just have to start switching playing war games and board games in the future. Having conquered our garage, dinner table and fireplace room (?), I guess it's better leave the floors clear of gaming stuff... You have to make hard compromises when living with women serio.gif

Buy it buy it buy it ! Don't worry if you find yourself in front of a Dragon with strenght 9 when you're a 2 strenght wizard at the start of the game ! Don't worry if your woman has ten animals following her minstrel character when the only morong following your dwarf is a hag ! Don't worry if you're running the dungeon tunnels towards the lord of darkness who looks soooo much nicer and weaker than your friend just behind, chasing you with his frakin dark cultist character with 10 in both stats.....

... don't worry when Talisman 5th ed gets out with better rules and better visuals. **** happens, but it will never take out the fun you have :)

I just picked the game up recently from a out of the way comic shop (had lots of forgotten goodies). One guy told the board games, while selling steadily don't nearly get as much attention as the tabletop, comic book and action figure offerings. Which was nice to hear considering that had pretty much every "it" board game and any associated expansions.

Anyways, played it last night and I actually enjoyed. The previous poster made me laugh because the experience was very much that. I was playing a dwarf and my friend the druid. I started off to a great stuff, accumulating quite a number of goodies. He was having a string of bad luck when it all reversed. It started off with him getting a poltergeist(which benefitted him greatly) and I ended up getting toaded, losing all my goodies.

Of course, he draws a card that reveals a stream that provides strength when landing on that space for a total of 4 strength upgrades. Because of the poltergeist, he was able to exploit it to quickly get his strength up. I ended up drawing a similar card but this time it was 4 craft. He then got a spell to port anywhere, and went to the space where I had to all my loot, taking every last bit of it. Then he was able to get his craft up 3 upgrades. When it was all said and done, I had 1 strength upgrade to his 4 and 0 craft upgrades to his 3. Then, he had a string of lucky follower draws and the rest is history.

Lol, I had almost the same exact game a couple weeks ago, Andrandos! I was also a Dwarf, got off to a DANG good start, got a decent amount of level ups, tons of good items and started into the middle region to work on getting a Talisman. I was having CRAZY good luck! My friend on the other hand, had died like 3 times, had JUST reincarnated again, this time as the Prophetess, & casts the Random spell on me. I roll: I get a 1 (toad), use a fate to re-roll: 1 AGAIN! Grrr. I become a toad and drop all my awesome stuff. He then gets lucky again and goes through a Runegate to move to the Runes space I was at when I dropped all my stuff, which he takes. sad.gif From there on, it was just downhill for me, while I watched him use my items to help him get a few quick level ups, a Talisman, and the win. sad.gif

Don't worry too much about me though, I got him back in the next game by stealing his Talisman in The Plain of Peril, forcing him to turn back & which led to me winning! gui%C3%B1o.gif

See, pirateclem ? just read the two dudes above, you'll catch the fun of it :) they're two great big talismaniacs :)

Oh and I hadn't noticed your question about buying online : if you're in Europe, consider an old thread of some "Frog" user who asked the same and for which I posted like ten links... at work now, can't search for you. Cheers.
