Wave 8 Speculation

By warrasmus, in X-Wing

One of the most fun aspects of visiting this forum is in my opinion all the speculation, complains about flying saucers and others over powered ships. I have seen some of the rebels show, which is the inspiration for half the wave. While the show might be a bit to cartoonish for my liking(both the characters and story), do not mean it is bad it is just made for another target group. Kids. This might explain why the new models now have the ships titles or nicknames on the box, actually FFG also did this on Hounds Tooth. But I really like what this wave brings to the table, lots of new stuff for everybody except the imperials who only got a tiny little ship, well you could run the Inquisitor with VI, the tie upgrade and the title and still afford 6 Ties, which seems like a very empire thing to do and on the papers seems like a good idea. I have also read "The tales of the bounty hunters"(loved the IG-88 part), which might not be canon anymore but FFG seems to have drawn a lot of inspiration from this source. I have tried to brainstorm wave 8 using this lore and the already existing game mechanics.

The Ghost:

This Ship is going to be a behemoth of a creature which can be customized in a great wary of ways but its is not going to be a cheap ship. Lots of things depends on the docking and deploying mechanism, the price of the phantom which I think will cost at least 22 points…I hope that the Attack Shuttle have a dial like the the Hwk-290 with no k-turns, but with only green and white maneuvers, this should reduce the cost some. Could all the shuttle pilots be the same price? I mean why not always take “Zeb” as your shuttle pilot if you are only using it for the extra arch and the free turret shot, Zeb has the lowest pilot skill which ought to be the cheapest… The Shuttle pilots could be like the IG-88s where all of them has the same cost, but instead of having the same pilotskill, the best ability could go to the pilot with the lowest skill level and ending with Hera who has the highest pilot skill but not the most exciting ability, thus making the Shuttle pilots the same price.

VCX-100:

Chopper (ps4)When attacking with a secondary weapon, you may reroll one dice(37p)

Kanar Jarrus(ps5) when you acquire a target lock you may remove a red targetlock from your ship. (38)

Hera Syndulla(ps7) When you perform a green or red maneuver, you may rotate your dial to a another maneuver with the same color(40p)- this might indicate that the Vcx-100 has more than one red maneuver.

Attack Shuttle:

Zeb Orrelios. When attacking with a secondary weapon in your firing arch, turn a blank dice into a focus result.

Ezra: Other friendly ships may tread your target lock as their own.

Sabine Wren: If someone drops a bomb inside range 1-2 of your ship, you may perform a boost or barrel roll action.

Hera Syndulla(PS7) friendly ships at range 1-2 may tread all whites maneuvers as greens maneuvers.

Crew

Sabrina (crew): Your may tread your torp. slots as bomb slots, you must equip a thermal detonator(0-1p)… B-wings as bombers, yes please.

Chopper(crew) when you are dealt a damage card, you may immediately preform an attack. Then, discard this Upgrade card….

“Zeb” Orrelios(crew) Action: you may regenerate a shield, you can not equip this card if you have more than one agility

Kanan Jarrus (crew) when attacking inside your firing arch you may change a eye into a hit.

Hera Syllust (crew) when docking or deploying you may assign one of the ships a focus token.

Ezra Brigder (crew) once per round if a enemy at range 1-2 is assigned a focus token, you may assign you ship a focus token(2p)

Stuff from the packet:

New turrent: roll three dices, if this attack hits cannel all results and assign the defender a crit. range 1-2. (4p)

New mod(or system?): Reinforced deflectors: When defending as long as you don´t have any damaged card assigned, you can not be dealt more then two hits per attack.

New Bomb: Thermal Detonator: This bomb detonates if there is an enemy within range 1 of the bomb, roll one dice, on a focus, hit or crit result, assign the defender a crit.

How to deploy and dock: Are the rules for deploying and docking the same for the Ghost and Gozanti? I think so:

Deploying: If your ship has another ship docked, you may deploy this ship after you executed a maneuver.

Choose a maneuver on the attack shuttle dial. Put the template between the peaks at the rear end of the ship deploying.

Preform the maneuver, but you may not take an action.

You may attack in the combat phase.

Docking: When you have executed a maneuver if you are in range 1 of a ship with the docking ability you may dock. Remove your ship from play area. This ship is now docked.

Mist hunter:

4-Lom and Zuckuss is such a great pair, a droid (a cool looking C3P0 with an insect head) and force using ammonia freak with bad health, their abilities should have some kind of synergy just like Kyle and Jan. Now FFG did it again made an obscure ship into a little gem. One of the developers said that 4-lom’s ability would be really annoying and scum like… i don’t know if my suggestion has that flair but: 4-lom(pilot)(PS6) at the end of combat phase if you have a stress token assigned, you may assign it to a unstressed enemy ship at range 1(27p).

4-lom (crew) when attacking if the defender rolls more than three evades dices, you may turn a turn a blank into a hit(2p)

Zuckuss(crew) If you preformed an attack that did not deal any damaged, you may preform a target lock action.

Adaption(ept):instead of preforming an attack, you may preform an boost or barrelroll action.

Electric barrier (system): When defending, if an attack has dealt more than three hits, you may assign the attacker a stress token.

Tractor beam: If you have beam token assigned to your ship then tread green maneuvers as white and White maneuvers as red, you can not preform red maneuvers. After you have executed a maneuver discard the beam token. You can not perform action when you have a beam token assigned.

Jumpmaster 500:

I like this ship design a lot both, I also thinks Dengar is the baddest space mumie I ever has seen… Maybe he is just an old perv trying to sneak into a toga-party. A real cold blooded killer until he got married, then he was just a cold killer ( being married tends to take the steam of some guys). I will have a real hard time playing this without the title, who doesn’t love an extra dice. The combination between crew and mech. is going to open up for lots of new combinations. K4 and unhinged astromech ( I do have this notion that it might not have any banks or turns at speed three) or Recon Specialist and R4 argomech or weapons engineer with R4 argromech… When I look at the preview I just can’t help noticed the three extra shields and stress tokens, I think this leads to the Overcharged Agromech(mech): At the beginning of combat phase if there is enemy ships within range, you may increase your shields with up to three shield tokens, then assign you ship with a stress token for each shield token(4p). Boba as a crew member, it would be nice if he also is an empire option. I see him as possible being an asset to any ship with a crew slot: Boba Fett(crew) At the end of the combat phase, you may perform a free action.(5p)

The pilots: Tel Trevura(ps7) The first time you take any damaged by any means, you can not be attacked that round. This guy is known for stealing a jump master and faking his own death…. found that stuff on Wookiepidia, never heard of him. Manaroo(ps4) this is Dengars wife, she was is kindhearted dancer and I have no suggestion about her ability…The PS3 pilot might cost something like a wild spacer(30p) but that seems a bit to much considering Dengar is 33p.

Gonk(crew) When you receive a faceup damage card with the ship icon you may discard it after resolving it.

Dengar(crew)When attacking outside your firing arch you may reroll one dice.

R-420(mech) When defending if you have a target lock on the attacker assign a focus token to your ship.

Rage(ept): When attacking, if you have have no stress tokens, assign your ship a stress token, you may turn a blank dice into a boom(0p)

Attani mindlink(ept): Each time you perform a focus action each other ship with attanni mind link may be assigned a focus token if they don’t have a token already.(2p)

Tie prototype advanced:

The little brother of the advanced, this actually look like an empire ship from the OT unlike the Punisher which looks like a siamis twin made by two very ashamed Tie bombers( still buying one). I have seen some people guess that the cost of the generics could be something like 16p-18p… Sounds fair if the dial is something alike a normal Tie fighter. We know what the Inquisitor does, not letting The Ghost roll as much as one defense dice and denying Cobra Commander half his ability. The PS4 pilot will probably have an EPT, being a baron ought to come with some benefits. Now Valon Rudor he is just an insult to the Empire and it seems like FFG wanted to highlight this by not giving him any special ability… Well I hope that it just hadn’t been printed yet. I have noticed that often will an expansion contain upgrades and pilots with a special ability which sort of work against each other. Like Blount and munitions failsafe and Kavil and the BTL-4A title. Then his ability could be something like this: When spending a targetlock, instead of discard it, you may assign it to a friendly ship at range 1-2 (23p). I think that other people have been spot on with the Guidance chip, hopefully its only going to cost 0-1 point, really making the Bomber worth taking.

Now what do you hope this wave brings to the game?

And the Millennium Falcon expansion pack and the Slave 1 expansion pack and the Tantive IV expansion pack and the Outrider expansion pack.

And the IG-2000 (Aggressor). Apparently it's just what they do on non-small ships.

I cant agree, The TIE Punisher looks like it belongs in the OT more so than the Advanced V1. Excluding that I think the V1 looks like crap, it looks to short nose too tail, and the folding solar panels just look bad. If you want a good looking ship with folding Solar panels get a TIE Hunter.

And the IG-2000 (Aggressor). Apparently it's just what they do on non-small ships.

But not the Lambda or Decimator, rebel transport, Raider or Gozanti..

I think it is ships that have a well known, titled example.

But not the Moldy Crow or Virago. So maybe it is non-small ships with well known, titled examples.

Or maybe it's just whatever they feel like at the moment. =P

The Lambda would have been more recognizable as the Shuttle Tyderium, but I guess the Tyderium was a Rebel ship for its screen appearance.

I'm pretty sure the Outrider came in a box labeled YT-2400, because I remember seeing it next to a Slave I pack and thinking that was odd. Your point still stands.

Yeah you are right the Falcon and the others did also come with the titles printed on the box, forgot about them… I just thought that it was really eye-catching that its was it was the Inquisitor’s Tie like they need to highlight the character. Its no big deal this just might mean that FFG is trying to reach a new target group, the fans of the show, great it will only benefit our game if even more are playing it.
