To all the UK x-wingers: Good luck with Grades!

By Justice Knight, in X-Wing Off-Topic

As I just went to pick my grades up for my A levels, I just wanted to wish anyone who's getting grades good luck for today and I hope you get what you want!

You may have slightly misjudged the majority demographic of this game (there'll definitely be some 17 and 18 year olds, but most are a fair bit older).

Yeah, actually i knew about this because my wife is a part time university lecturer (i work for the business school at NTU as well sometimes) and shes in from 7am til 8pm today for a level results day as she also manages accommodation.

So yeah good luck to you all but i hate you all because i had to set my alarm for 6am today!

(I work from home most the time so don't get out of bed before 9 unless i've got a site to attend or a meeting :( )

Pfft not one employer has ever asked to see my results since I left college in 98, I couldn't even tell you were those documents are now.

everything I know about British schools I learned from Harry Potter. I assume you're talking about the results of your NEWTs?

When i went for a commission in the army , despite having a degree with maths logic as part of it the army wanted to see my GCSE's and A level results from my school and sixth form.

I trecked back to my home town but they no longer had them on record (sat mine way pre interent)

The headmaster at the time was a good bloke though. He said 'tell me what grades you want and i'll have them sorted for you'.

But yeah, i mean in 20 years of graduate employment only the army and Nottingham University ever wanted to see any qualifications (and then only my degree).

Its the old rule of education that once you go to the next level of 'attainment' no one actually gives a sod about your previous results. Its like since doing a post grad course my undergrad is largely irrelevant to employers.

Dead frustrating that you spend years working hard for qualification that no one actually ever asks to see.

Seriously I could have made my degree up and worked in graduate jobs for years... like i say only the government and higher education actually checked.

I know this because i'd forgotten to repay a student hardship loan so until i applied for my post grad i didnt know i'd actually not been awarded my degree as they were withholding it until the balance was paid! Luckily the army had accepted a letter from my course tutor but between 98 and 2007 i was doing jobs on the basis of having a degree that technically i didnt have so clearly NOBODY checked.

Crazy isnt it?
