Oicunn pilot ability

By iPanterra, in X-Wing Rules Questions

it says "After executing a maneuver, each ship you are touching suffers 1 damage"

does this only apply if you execute a maneuver or does it also applies when enemy ships executes a maneuver into oicunn?

It applies to Oicunn executing a maneuver.

"After executing a maneuver" does not specify which ship executes a maneuver. If it is not limited to Oicunn, it is not limited to ships overlapping him either. I.e. if any ship anywhere on the board executes a maneuver, each ship Oicunn is touching suffers one damage. That's obviously not intended.

This is a good example of the rules of English grammar and how rearranging a sentence can help. "After executing a maneuver" is a dependent clause, so remove it from the beginning and make it a full sentence, and you get:

Each ship you are touching after executing a maneuver suffers 1 damage.

Therefore, the implied "you" in the original text comes out to a more definite "you" in the rearranged version, meaning that only after "you" (Oicunn) executes a maneuver.

If it were to mean any ship, the wording would read something such as: "After any ship executes a maneuver, any ship you are touching suffers 1 damage."

Ok thx
