The beauty of Palp is that, unlike C3PO, you always know what you rolled before you have to decide to use him. Roll enough evades, and you can save him for later in the round. If you only roll one hit, you can bank him for defense. But if you get a range one shot and land three hits, you can also burn him to bump that up to three and a crit for maximum pain.
Emperor Palpatine: Overated?
Dammit folks. Already have AC/DC packed up for tourney tomorrow and now you make want to run a Sheve Miller Band instead.
It's the same process that I used to put a range on C-3P0's value, which finally put hard numbers to how undercosted he was.
I assume that if C3P0 was only useable on ships with 2 or more agility, or zero natural agility, he'd be closer to appropriately costed?
I would just say you can't guess zero.
He's terribad... Awful... Woefully overcosted...
Yes...yes...ignore the decrepit looking old man in those giant robes...no way he could do you harm... 8pointsnwasted for sure...exactly how he wants you to think...
Interesting... like I say I like him fine, but I do not love him... yet.

Or, if you're flying him alongside an ATC TIE Advanced combination, that one hit can suddenly and inexplicably become one hit and two critical hits, and your low-agility opponent's grin quickly vanishes, just like his ship.
Palpatine's not limited to defence like C3-P0. Or to attack. Or to the ship he's on. Or by range. Or by any combination of the above. His only limitation is "friendly ship only", and he works on ANY given dice roll. The key is knowing when to use him.
Fly through an asteroid or debris field without fear; trap an opponent forever with an ion projector, make Saboteur or Anti Pursuit Lasers work every single time. Make mines "super-effective", Major Explosion? Nope. Clear Structural Damage, Weapons Failure or a Damaged Sensor Array on the first time of asking, without fail...
...still not convinced?

I think opponent rolls when they hit your mine. You are less scared of running over a prox or cluster though.
He needs two crew slots because he takes large strides.
No it's because no one wants to sit next to him

I'd rather not sit next to an evil Sith lord really.

I went 4-0 today in Escalation with a list that started out with a Palpatine shuttle and Carnor Jax. The Emperor was quite definitely the MVP. I'm really, really satisfied with what he accomplishes in a list.

Carnor Jax won those games for you. The Emperor is overrated! ![]()
Oh gosh. The Emperor in a match with so few shots going around is just crazy.
Ive been using him on the Dauntless commanded by Oicunn escorted by Ties and F/Os!! Hes been helping keep ships alive to fight another round when they have 1 hull remaining and change thosee occasional blank red dice to Crits at crucial moments!

My opponent in the first round was a new player running 4x TIE/fo at PS1. I think the match would still have gone my way if I'd spent those 29 points on something else, but the Emperor let me play a little more aggressively than I would have otherwise with Jax. Palpatine in that match was mostly a Threepio-style floor on defense rolls, but I got to see the defense dice first.
Edited by Vorpal SwordYeah, I just played a mass battle (3 v3) with Palpatine. I'm in love. Stacked up an attack to land 3 crits on the hull of a Y-wing. Did some major damage to Biggs and Horton Salm. Also let Carnor keep his Stealth Device when he was in an unfortunate spot.
The double crew is so important in balancing him. I shudder to think of him on a Phantom or Firespray.
Played a 3v3 epic this WE. We had Palpatine and he did a great job in keeping Soontir alive, which was able to draw attention.
