Raider too Newquel?

By patox, in X-Wing

Great now i cant get the southpark version of the GoT theme tunes out of my head...

Looking at the design closer, I think the decks...eh...maybe it's not as ridiculous as to be impossible, but the layout would always end up a bit odd.

Still, the ships seems to lack...'greebles'...that give Star Wars vehicles their 'lived in/realistic' look to them.

Like, off the top of my head - putting some communication masts on top of the bridge area already helps fix it up, some. A large sensor dome would also work.

But isn't this thing supposed to be stealthy or something? Idk where I heard that, but going by that thought, the smoothness and simplicity makes sense. Like an F-22 or B-2.

Angles mean zip for space detection they wont hide your heat IR signature, or your electronic emissions. or your engine flare etc etc.

Indeed, if you want stealth in space you need to obscure your heat signatures... like this bad boy does:

Losing peripheral vision in a TIE is almost as bad as not knowing where the bulk of your fighter is in something like, say, a B wing.

Yeah, A B-Wing would be pretty bad about that, but it's not very maneuverable, so It's probably not that bad, plus the pilot would gain a feel for where the body is with experience.

I would normally agree with you on the TIE part, but after playing Elite: Dangerous, vision outside a 90-110 degree arc (what I imagine it is) isn't terrible if it has a good HUD showing 3D mapping of your "radar range" coupled with friend or foe identification. However, I imagine formation flying is a nightmare lol

Does anyone recall the movie Last Star Fighter? Or even the HUD in helmets of our existing helicopter pilots? You don't need a window in space. Everything can be virtual in the HUD.

Good point. I was focused on the dash displays being able to show your surroundings in 3D because that's usually what you see being used in a TIE, but in helmet is also an option. Probably way cheaper for the empire to implement as well

Flaw in this logic stream: X-wings were made for the IMPs originally, which means they would have developed them with the helmet technology in mind (if it existed).

'Ohh, but uh the rebels couldn't get ahold of imperial helmets.' Incorrect, because even if the Rebels couldn't just raid anywhere that had a tie fighter or two, they had plenty of defectors that could have easily brought a helmet or two with them. Instead the x-wings has an even shittier targeting computer than the TIEs.

'Oh but it was (i dunno something about old technology?)' you say? Okay so maybe Incom ****** up on that one and forgot to use an obviously amazing technology, but what about the As and Bs which were supposed to be super hi-tech?

Yeah, it isn't a thing in the OT. You can retcon and fool yourselves, but that is all it is. If you want cool ship sensors and feedback, and haven't heard about it, Star Citizen can fulfill your desires: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/

not to sound overly against the OP, but

there is literally no such thing as "newquel"

we're out of OT material, everything's a "newquel" relative to that

(though the raider itself is billed anti-squadron capital ship that was developed post-Endor, when they finally realized "oh wait, FIGHTERS did that to us!?" even though they should've known from Yavin) <_<

Yavin was just a lucky shot.

Yavin was a #InsideJob... Know the #truth ... #XWingsCantMeltSteelBeams

In my experience there's no such thing as luck.

What was this thread about again? TIE Pilot helmets having built in HUD and the Lancer looks like an adult toy?

Oh.

'Newquel'. Cute.
