New Pilots for current ships

By Shinwakin, in X-Wing

So I have been looking at the Y-wing and the Tie bomber and been thinking these ships need more Pilots. Does anyone else think this? And are there any other ships people would like to see get some more pilots.

I definitely think we need more Rebel Y-wing Pilots. We're still missing Davish 'Pops' Krail (or 'Stay on Target guy') and Tiree. Maybe we could have Keyan in a Y-wing too!

Rebels need a Y-wing with an EPT, and there are still famous pilots from the OT not in game. Seems simple enough to do the maths.

The E-Wing and Defender could use some alternative named pilots, it would be nice to regularly see more than just Corran

Y-wing pilots are great (especially with the incoming Twin-Laser Turret for Horton). Rhymer is a bit expensive.

I think that the TIE Defender desperately needs more pilots, the ones it has are highly situational, the kind where you have to build around them to get a good list.

FFG has done Most Wanted, Imperial Aces, and Rebel Aces, as well as the GR-75 and Imperial Raider.

I expect to see a new Aces pack of some kind, probably cross-faction, but that pack will likely involve the StarViper, Defender, and either the X- or E-Wing. I also wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of Bomber Aces or other similar pack specifically designed for the Y-Wing and TIE Bomber (probably a Scum Y, Rebel Y, and Imperial TIE Bomber).

I mean, I can hardly believe there's a Star Wars spaceship game that doesn't include a pilot for yelling 'Stay on Target!' with.

We can say 'I can hold it!' and 'I have you now!' (especially with ATC), but personally I think the lack of Krail in this game is a travesty.

Extremely unlikely that FFG will do a cross faction expansion. They are not going to put out a product that will force people who only collect a single faction to buy ships for another faction. They work hard trying to make sure that people don't have to do that for cards, they're not going to do it for ships.

Closest we might get is if they do a new starter set for the force awakens. Maaaaybeee if they do a scenario expansion, battle of Yavin frex. Other than that it will almost certainly be single faction packs.

There are a lot of ships we may want to see new pilots. It isn't even too hard to put out a new pilot as it just requires a pilot card and the base tile although because the tile is two sided that probably means another new pilot or reprinting an old one. Allowing a ship in a different faction is also as easy as that when the pilot/tile is all you need as dials don't change.

The problem with more pilots is simply how are they going to get distributed? The Aces and other expansions that include reprints are no-brainers when it comes to new pilots but in a way those are also limiting when you already have enough models to use but just want some different pilots. I'd kind of like to see alternate pilots included as part of the scenarios some expansions have although then you run into people seeing the inclusion as "wasted space" although they don't need to take up much space or FFG being "greedy" by making you buy something to get those new pilots when you may want nothing else in that expansion.

Well you have to take a look at the Business model for X-wign and see how new pilots and ships are released.

New ships are released in waves. Each wave has a completely new ship (with the exception of wave 6 and Wave 1) thus bring 4 pilot cards each.

New pilots for existing ships come out in special sets like the Rebel Transport or the Imperial Aces pack. New pilot for existing ships do not come out in waves with the only exception is Wave 6 but those pilot cards all belong to a different faction so they don't count as new pilots for older ships.

It is unlikely that FFG is going to stray from this model as it is working very successfully. Now not to say that the upgrades in each wave could be designed with past ships in mind (autothrusters and Extra Munitions are good examples). But lets know that new X-wing products are developed at least 1 years in advance and often more. IF there are going to be any new pilots they will be added in a similar fashion.

Your overall point stands, it's just not always 4 pilots in a ship's initial release.

If I don't have Lt. Kettch in my hands by the second Bernie presidency I'll probably quit playing x wing.

Not quite. Some ships get more than 4 pilots in their wave expansion pack. TIE Fighter and Interceptor, for example, both had 6.

Right as those two ships don't have much in upgrade customization as both TIE academy and TIE interceptor both have an empty upgrade bar. Now why the MA-3 Scyk didn't come out with 6 pilots who knows. Also wave 1 did have new pilots for the core set so I can include Wave 1 with the Wave 6 as the exception.

They came from behind!

It's actually really weird that they haven't filled this obvious gap. I have a feeling we'll see this fixed in 2016 for sure. Now that they can take bombs and the A4 title there's all kinds of interesting things to think about for pilot abilities.

I think it's fairly safe to say that every ship in the game has at least one dud pilot card.

I'd love to see every pilot be viable, upgrades/squad composition depending of course.

I think one of the best ways to get some new pilots, is if they did some cross faction aces for the ships that already are cross faction ships. Maybe even add One or two ships that would be Imperial and Rebel faction ships. It would be a great way for all of us to increase our fleets and give us options and reason to try other factions.
