What Would Be the Mechanics on a Chiss/Mirialan half breed?

By Selnique, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I only ask because we may have rp'd this into a thing in our game...

I was picturing a mottled blue/green skin, red eyes with no pupils or iris.

No strenght/weakness in stats (like humans) as they average out.

Would the offspring be blind? Would they have the Chiss infrared vision?

Would the offspring have a bonus skill in both Cool and Discipline?

Mirialans aren't blind...are you thinking Miralukans?

What I'd do is simply offspring as a Human, mechanically. No homebrews required, stat and flavor as appropriate. For example, your two free non-career skill picks might easily contain Cool, Discipline, or both.

If you wanna tweak it a little, simply remove 10 XP from the Human stats and give them Infrared vision.

In general, if I wanted to make a half-breed. I would pick a lineage, and use those stats. Everything else would just be flavor and fluff.

Basically this.

If a PC really wanted to mix the stat blocks I would allow for a swapping of species ability. So you could have a Chiss with a free rank of Discipline rather than Cool, or a Mirialan with a rank of Cool instead of Discipline. I think the Chiss also get a -2Setback to low light so maybe just make that -1Setback and allow either to have it. I don't think any of it would be create an imbalance

Chiss just remove 1 setback due to lighting. They can see in regular and infrared spectrums, so lighting conditions in general simply have no effect on their ability to perceive most things. -2 setbacks would be too powerful, IMO.

That ability seemed worth about 10 XP to me, so that's why I suggested it. And they are both considered "near-human," so Human stats seemed to fit! And Humans are by far the most flexible of the species mechanics-wise, so that's why I always default to humans when I am looking for a good set of stats for an undefined species.

I think you can safely mix and match almost whatever you want. Example, I prefer the stat line flavour of Klatooinians over Weequay, I don't think swapping either would matter much. Obviously there are some restrictions...Twi'leks can't breath under water, so swapping with a Mon Cal is a no go...

I must have mixed the Chiss ability with the Keldor. I still don't think it matters a great deal. My point is, if there is a PC just begging for a mixed stat block I think it's pretty easy to provide that for them with some simple mix and match.

I would be cautious with the mixing and matching. Try to get a feel for how valuable an ability is before you swap it with another.

Yeah, I wasn't clear. I meant that I think you could swap entire profiles and it wouldn't matter.
