Restricted Weapon Permit/License

By Kainrath, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Every game is different, but in my games the Empire doesn't recognize Droid rights-- they are property. A Droid simply cannot be licensed to own weapons. However, the owner of an armed Droid needs to be licensed for having that armed Droid.

If you want to look into licensing, check out Shadowrun. They have a license for bloody near everything. And false identities to support them.

I never mentioned about Droids having license's, but in my game a player needs a license to own a droid. And a special license to own security droids, etc.

So, in your game IG-88 doesn't exist, or what?

IG-88 is a highly illegal aberration. He is a rogue Droid that only manages to exist because he fakes having an owner that is a member of the BHG.

I've had my players share the cost for a 'Walking Weapon Platform' licence (a princely 200 creds during first session of play).. I.E the driod player with weapons that pop out of everywhere... It means they just flash the permit at Imperial Checkpoints etc.. 'Move along. Move along'

Then I'm very sure that they'd ask where his owner is when he boarded the Executor in ESB, which would be awkward for him.

It also seems very strange that Vader would let him go on the bridge without the actual bounty hunter being there.

Vader was chasing an obsession, and if Vader choose to let IG-88 participate, nobody is going to question his order (and live).

Sure, but I find it hard to believe that IG-88 would become one of the best and most famous bounty hunters in the galaxy while essentially using false credentials.

The Empire would have stopped him somewhere along the line.
