Online Vassal Tournament just finished, Each player to create 1 upgrade

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

So I just finished an online tournament yesterday, I was 3rd overall.

It was only 10 people, but still a lot of fun.

There were some special rules:

-- Each player could create one upgrade, which would be reviewed and costed by the TO.

Special MOV Scoring: For every ship you had in your squad after two you earned and extra 5 MOV points

Here are some of the upgrades:

First is mine: (Thanks to all the forum input for helping me get this submitted and balanced)

Ordnance Computer

0 Pts

Modification

At the end of any turn when you have ordnance (missile or torp equipped) you can acquire a free lock on on targets in range.

Astrobomb:

3 Pts

Astromech slot

This astromech counts as a Proton Bomb

Expert Engineer

6 pts

2 Crew Slots

Ignore any critical hits that refer to Structural Damage, Damaged Engine, Minor Hull Breach

Covering Fire

2 pts

EPT

When this ship makes a primary weapons attack on an enemy ship, it may place an evade token on a friendly ship in the target ships firing arc

Enhanced Syck

0 pts

Title

Add a missile or torpedo slot to your ship or you may add a Cannon slot to your ship and subtract 1 squad point from any cannon your purchase (Minimum of 1)

Inside Information

2 pts

Illicit

After deployment phase is completed. Your ship may complete 1 maneuver on your ships dial. Use pilot Skill to settle ties

My List:

4 Rookie X-wing, with Proton's and the Ordnance computer.

It worked really well, although some of the guys I played against were obviously not very experienced, still had a great time. Good to fly the X-wing again.

The Winning list of Dash, and 2 X-wings with Astrobomb

I cannot wait till Sept 4, 2015 when they announce the X-wing fix.

Also, some of those upgrades I faced were very interesting. That Inside information was really cool.

So those are the main ones I remember and faced.

Wanted to share that people still play and have fun with old ships too.

I find the idea of ejecting a screaming astromech which then explodes hilarious.

The ordnance computer is easily abused and too cheap in my opinion, why would you ever fire your torpedo when it means giving up your focus and TL each turn?

First off. I loved the Astromech bomb idea too. That would really be a cool item.

As for the ordnance computer, I used it to devastate some large ships. Remember you are still paying 4 points for a proton torp or less on even smaller torps. So it allows you to strike when you want, and yes you can get the free target lock, but it is a modification slot, so no EU, or other mods.

It really only helps low PS ships, since they really won't use their mod slot very often.

Toss one on Dutch for giggles. Toss one on Wedge with R3-A2 to focus, deal and gain stress and still acquire a target lock? Wow.

Colzet is in the back jumping, going "ooh, ooh, ooh! Pick me! Pick me!"

Unless it's X-Wing only of course, but even then it is a frightful modification that I'd pick over almost any other without hesitation.

Yes, it is essentially a FCS for nothing. seems a little too powerful, in my opinion, and ripe for abuse.

More than that, it allows you to target anyone, not just those you attacked.

In it's original form, you basically equip that and the cheapest missile or torpedo upgrade in order to gain a free target lock on every single enemy ship, every turn. Yikes! Simple fix to remove potential abuse and reduce power slightly in case you run the same tourney again:

Any [Missile] or [Torpedo] upgrade card requiring you to spend your target lock to make an attack, no longer requires you to spend your target lock.

I do like this, but it really doesn't help low PS skill ships get the lock on's they need.

Change it to:

At the end of your turn, you roll an attack die: on a focus you can acquire a lock onto 1 eligible target.

Now you need to roll it for it to work.

I really like that covering fire EPT. Put it on Horton with TLT, 2 evades to buddies if he jousts!

yeah! he put it on his Corran. Was really awesome!

Guidance Chip: when firing a misile or torpedo, turn 1 focus result into a hit.

Who came up with Covering Fire? I'd love to stealborrow it for something.

Not sure of the guys actual name. He flew under the name Empiremustdie!

Guidance Chip: when firing a misile or torpedo, turn 1 focus result into a hit.

I like this would you cost it at 2 points?

We'll find out when the Inquisitor Tie is spoiled.
