Storing Hound's Tooth

By GiraffeandZebra, in X-Wing

So I thought I would put this out there in case anyone is looking for a way to squeeze the YV-666 into a case. You can wiggle it and pull off the fins as shown in this picture. No tools required. Just some patience and careful wiggling of the tail to break up the glue. The piece still fits back on snugly and securely when reassembled.

Are those slots I see in the tail section to clip it onto the hull of the ship? Or is it glue residue or chipping?

No slots. The hole in the tail piece has some paint from the main body and vice versa where the glue held better to one side or the other.

A better word was probably "ridges" instead of "slots".

This is a neat idea. How did you come across it? I'd be too afraid to try this, I think lol

That is actually what I initially set out to do, but found the whole tail easier to remove. It just has beefier bits to hold on to. I still like mine better. I feel like I'd rather deal with the square peg going on and off rather than 2 little pegs. I'm less worried that the square tube would ever get broken, and the piece I removed is a bit more...solid?

Plus, the tail removed looks like a little ship and for some reason I like that even though it is completely useless.

Anyways, both are good options and probably depend more on what you are putting it in than anything else.

I heard somebody removed their tail and magnetized it on one of the threads, so I was trying to figure out how to do it.

Honestly, it isn't that scary of a project. You wiggle it gently back and forth and pull a little. Hold on to the beefy parts while doing so and it is no problem if you take your time. If it doesn't come off, just wiggle some more and keep trying until it does.

The correct solution to this problem is not to store it at all. Put it on its base and put it on a shelf along with all the other large and huge ships.

you don't store hound's tooth

hound's tooth stores you

Feels like a solution that only works if you never play anywhere but your own house.
