Starkiller Base

Those AT-AT like things look a bit weird to me. It's almost like they are missing their heads and what is there is a coupling for something to be attached to... or fly onto and couple....

Agreed. The heads look disproportionately small.

The heads are non-existent, just giant guns/cannons. I love it!

Honestly the head never made much sense practically. There's a reason why the driver of a tank is behind the thickets part of the armor, rather sitting in something that while maybe well armored is still more exposed then it needs to be.

Only standard hex-winged TIES, nothing Interceptor- or Bomber-looking. And the wing of the TIE in the foreground seems almost translucent. I swear I can see she shapes of the troopers standing behind it.

For anyone who doubts how effective stormtroopers are just look at their aim when not firing at main characters.

You mean all those ewoks were main characters?

Okay, their aim when not firing at main characters or obvious soon to be plush toys that will be sold that Christmas.

Oh man. Who's that handsome fellow trying as hard as he can to look like a Nazi officer?

You mean the things with legs?

I stand corrected. The zoom on the pic is not as powerful as whatever you used there.

The angled armor on those new ATs is really good.

They remind me of the BigDog. :P

I hate that thing. I hope we are just seeing the back, which are now armed with rear firing weapons like the IOn cannon version or Juggernaughts.

Actually, Stormtroopers are the elite- The seldom seen in the films Imperial Army makes up the bulk of the Empire's troops. But because we're usually following critical imperial engagements, we mostly see stormtroopers. The few Imperial army troopers we do see are on guard duty in the Detention center [because the death star is huge and there's only so much you can guard with stormtroopers] and the Battle of Endor [Presumably there to create the illusion the base is lightly defended before the trap is sprun

Actually the stormtroopers had no problem hitting the sandcrawler. However, as a space fantasy, Star Wars cant have competent enough troops that kill off the main characters in the first meeting. Not to mention stormtroopers are not the "elite" branch of the armed forces, but THE armed forces, of which some stormtroopers may be an elite branch. What this means os you could encounter stormtroopers of varying skill.

You and Squark are both correct for the most part. The E-11 is not very accurate, if you watch Ep IV when Han uses the E-11 , he misses as closer ranges than an Storm Trooper in the Saga. He is about in the point blank range yet misses the Storm Troopers. Despite that most people who watch the OT and see the troopers miss the main characters dont take into account the Troopersa re missing for tactical reasons.

The Storm Troopers on the DS were meant yo chase the Rebs off and let them run too their base. The Imps wanted to follow them so they could kill off the Reb leaders. On Bespin when dealing with Luke, they gad sim orders the Troopers on the DS had, chase /lure them too an ambush point for Vader. On Endor, the scene were Leia meets Wickit and a Sniper fires at them. The Sniper was just keeping them pinnedd own while his Commander flanked them and captured them. They did this so they could question them, find out who they are. Anyother time, just about, they have missed the heros was when the heros had cover to get behind while the Imps were stuck out in the open.

Also the guys you say are army troopers on the DS 1&2 as well as Endor were actully NAVY troopers.

Yeah, storm troopers will never fair so well against main characters, but I'm ok with that because the main characters are obviously badass or they wouldn't have a movie made about them. There were probably plenty of other Luke wannabees in the Star Wars time period, but we don't have movies about them because they got shot.

However, I do feel writers and directors could do a better job at making the misses more plausible and also change it up a bit to make the reason they don't get killed because they avoided bad situations or came up with clever solutions instead of just yolo running through blaster fire and coming out without a scratch.

With CGI you can make better near miss shots, take in mind the special effects usedf or blaster bolts hitting nonliving thingsa re explosives. They can cause life lasting damage to people if they are set off to close to the actors, hense why they were pretty bad off mark misses. Just a side note Kurt Ruslle was hurt by FX explosives like in the OT. It happen in Big Trouble in Littile China, it happens at the end of the film when Guards fire at Jack and hit a alarm book close to Jacks head. William Shatnber has life lasting damage caused by these type of FX explosives. It happend during the ST ep with the Gorn. He has had a constant rining in jis ears form that point on. It gets so loud that it has caused William to think about killing himself to stop the ringing.

I was looking att he TIE hanger during the scenew hen the TIE fires its cannons while facing backwards, in the bottom left looks like the tip of a classic TIE Interceptor dagger solar pannel.

Seriously, I don't give a toss about whether it makes sense in the timeline or the lore or whatever. The Interceptor is my favourite ship in Star Wars and I'll be disappointed if an updated version of them doesn't make it into the new movies.

General Hux, played by Domhnall Gleeson, an Irishman, who would naturally be a villain in the Star Wars Universe.

Revealed, Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master.

I hope they don't take down the picture, three sites that had it have already taken them off.

Old Luke dresses like Old Ben. Hold on to your monocles people!

I'm certain the similarities are entirely intentional.

You don't say!

I'm still wondering how many more robot parts Luke will have in episode 7. Something tells me he will be more machine than man as well. I wouldn't put too much stock in that photo being the final look of the character.

Oh I hope the First Order got a quantity discount on the mass order of ladders they will need to get their pilots into those TIE Fighters. :D Those beautiful, beautiful new TIE Fighters.

The cast traitors to The Empire include Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed.

Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk

so the real question - which of these two is the villain?

Had me at Whitaker and Tudyk.

You know what's really interesting here?

How modern Star Wars looks. Like, Star-Wars-These-Days.

It's identifiably different. A bit cleaner. Less outer-rimmy, less rough. Budget's obviously higher. There's just something wholly different about new Star Wars content.

Not to say it's bad! It's not. But it IS different in some way shape or form that I'm really having a hard time nailing down. Is it the lack of 70s hairstyles? How crisp and high-definition things look? How, aforementioned, clean and high production budget it all is? The stark contrast to film methodology and tech then and now?

I don't know.

I don't dislike it. I know that much at least. But do I like it? I also don't know that. I'm wholly neutral, and I've had that feeling about Episode VII's sets and costumes as well. It's all identifiably Star Wars.

And yet somehow feels distinctly different from what we know. In a way, as strange as this may sound, moreso than the prequels.
