Could X Wings be useful again?

I hope the X-wing fix isn't ep7 stuff.

Why not? An ace style expansion with a new Xwing and a new Tie fighter(or two) could be cool and issue cards to fix current Xwing also.

New X-Wings are kind of fugly (front/rear s-foil split should kill itself), new TIEs are full-retard gubbin-slapping with no design sense, and I don't want to support Episode 7 until I know whether it's actually good (which given JJ's track record and half the actor choices could very well not be the case)

I really can't see FFG releasing a mixed Aces pack of Ep VII X-Wing and TIE Fighter. They'll be separate products if they release them, especially since the new TIE will be so different from the old one.

I'd much rather the Ep VII stuff be it's own game to be honest. The 30 year technology gap will be weird to represent in the game.

The Star Wars galaxy just develops a lot slower, it's much more stagnant, than our planet.

That is a concept that Harry Turtledove used in his Worldwar series. An alien scout scans the planet and sees knights on horseback, goes back and an invasion fleet is sent. When they arrive it is the middle of WW2 and the aliens are shocked at the enormous progress; all species they've known develop much slower. To their horror the humans adapt quite easily to the new stuff the Aliens bring with them and keep inventing. :D

The X Wing will be used again once either one or both of these conditions are met:

1.) Turretwing and the two hyper ship meta in general calms down. This is the biggest problem they face. They last slightly longer than a Z-95 or TIE Fighter when faced with 4 dice gunner FCS crap, or a turret that always has a shot on you with 15,000 free dice modifications. Since they're normal ships they also simply can't at all deal with say, Super Dash boosting and barrel rolling every ******* turn. Before this nuanceless hyper ship crap took off they were used in Rebel 4 ship builds and a handful of their pilot abilities were worth flying an X Wing over just another B Wing.

The X Wing, Starviper, Defender, Scyk are all decent, but they're the epitome of normal, balanced ships. They move one a turn, they get one action a turn, they don't have a turret, and they only fire once a round. They may be overcosted a little but that's not the problem, it's HLC Turrets or Chiraneu Predator Gunner obnoxious crap or 4 dice FCS Gunner BS that is the problem.

2.) They receive some sort of buff, like Chardaan Refit, BTL-A4, X1, etc.

I honestly don't think a meta shift will be enough

Bwings And tie fighters will still power right through them (and have far more options thanks to broll)

If fat, high health ships suddenly went out of style, though, we could see some more of the characters (wedge) again
