Symbol on the new Card Titles

By Kyla, in X-Wing

So, I noticed the "A New Hope" style symbol next to the ship name and I didn't see anywhere that it was mentioned what the purpose of it was. Is this maybe to identify the time period as being "OT" and not "Ep VII+"?

Good catch!

Yep it is on all the other epic only ships as well

I still wish they put a number of Epic symbols on the card to match the number of Epic squad points it represents.

Probably wanted to lend future flexibility, given the limited number of ships they had to balance. No points on the card makes it easy to change. Or the epic points thing was an afterthought.

So you have a Rebel Transport and 2 CR-90s and you didn't know what that symbol meant???

Ooohhh shiny! Hadn't ever noticed it before!

Epic point values are kind of mute anyway.

I rarely get to play with Mr Kitty and Mr Kitty Junior.

I've never played with the Transport .... I got it cause of Jek. <_<

They mainly restrict the number of huge ships you can field. The basic formula for epic points is that each huge ship is

  • 1 + (# of section cards) in epic points. You count the tile and section cards which all have that symbol.

Using that formula the CR-90 and Raider is worth 3 epic points while the GR-75 (and if the Gozanti follows the same formula) is worth 2 epic points.

So what that does in Epic standard is limit you to no more than 2 huge ships and only one of them could be a 2 section huge ship. In Epic Tournament format it all comes down to no more than 1 huge ship per player.

And, is that easier for you than "Big huge ships are 3, smaller support huge ships are 2"?

Not trying to jump on you, your formula gets the correct values, you even mention that FFG might not follow your formula in the future, just...wow.

I hate to unleash my inner Stannis, but: moot. The word is "moot".

And IG-88 is worth .5 Epic points each. And an Epic game must field at least 2 Epic points per side.

Only if you combine it into V-07-IG-88-TR-0N a 2 section huge ship with each section 8 shields 8 hull.

Front section has 6 Firepower, 1 agility; target lock, jam; 2 hardpoint, 1 cargo slots; and firing arcs off the side; with the ability if you destroy a ship recover 0 shield. When you miss you may spend 2 energy to perform an attack with a <hardpoint> weapon even if it already attacked this turn. 72 points. Crippled down to 3 firepower and a hardpoint.

Rear section has 6 energy, 0 agility; reinforce, recover; 2 hardpoints and 2 cargo slots and has the ability when executing a bank maneuver you may spend 1 energy to execute the same maneuver again and assign 1 reinforce token to a section. 72 points. Crippled down to 1 energy and a cargo.

Technically he's right. Epic points don't tend to talk much.
