A question for people who love to fly with squadrons

By Intys Rule, in Star Wars: Armada

This is for both Rebel and Imperial builds, hopefully those that use the full 100 points (or 133 if you play at 400 points cap) allowed for squadrons.

What's the maximum number of squadron types that you've brought to a game? When I say "squadron types," I make a distinction between standard TIEs and named TIEs. For example, if you only fly no-named TIEs and Advanced, then you only bring 2 squadron types, no matter if you bring in a number of each type. If you fly no-named TIEs and Advanced plus Fel, Mithel, and Howl, then that's 5 types even though Mithel and Howl are both TIEs and Fel is also an Advanced.

So anyway, what's the maximum number of squadron types that you've brought? What would you say is your average number of squadron types?

Thanks!

2 for Rebels (either generic As and Bs with Yavaris, or ace Xs and Dutch with le Haven)

Empire is a bit more complex when I run my 2 VSDs. First, Rhymer (so bomber) and then generic Advance (imo, more attractive than generic bombers for not being worthless against squadrons). Then Soontir (interceptor), then Mauler (fighter)

so

Rhymer (16)

Bomber (9)

3 Advance (36)

Soonts (18)

Mauler (15)

[94]

no howlie because neither bombers nor Advance have Swarm, and Mauler's guaranteed(!) damage is imo just dandy even without cherineau

it's a variety jamboree out there

I'vs brought 6 (Howler, Mauhler, fel, Rymer, Vader, and tie bomber)

I normally run 5 (Fel, Mithel, Rhymer, Tie Advanced, and Bomber)

So yea, Variety is the spice of life :)

unless the meta goes ship heavy due to forum-talk, in which case Soontir's getting axed for 2 more bombers

I like Soonts and all, but his ability is really his to circumvent. I actually far prefer Mauler's "CANNONBALL"-esque entrance

I like to fly a "typical" imperial fighter wing:

2 TIEs

Howl

2 Interceptors

Rhymer

Bomber

Vader

I have run 3 ties and regular advance...but vader is really nice for 3 full-use black die chuckers.

This allows me to bomb, picket, engage-to-win, and toss lots of dice against all-ship lists. Though in an all-ship meta I have considered 4 advances and 4 Bombers with 1 as the ace.

I like a good mix. I tend to try and include a TIE-Fighter, TIE-Advanced, and TIE-Interceptor with each of my VSDs, with various unique named thrown in if I have spare points. The three work well together; the Advanced's escort keeps the other two squishies safe, while the Interceptor hits hardest. The Fighter is cheap, and helps add in a few more points, or can be used to protect the VSD from attacks by enemy squadrons.

300pts

6 Y Wings

3 A Wings

I used to bring howlrunner, interceptors, fel, and advanced.

But now I just bring fel rhymer and advanced.

I run about 75 points of squadrons.

Hmmm.... seems like 6 is the most number of types flown, with 4 or 5 being the usual...

usually 4-5 buy as many as 6.

I like to bring uniformity because Empire. Therefore, I tend to bring Bombers and TIEs. I like how they're cheap and it just oozes Imperial-ness.

Obviously, I'm not going to not bring Rhymer. Until he gets nerfed, he seems about as must-bring as the Decimator title for Gladiators.

but all the imperial squadrons are TIEs, even the Bombers :o

I barely have any games under my belt, but my personal doctrine is to embrace the "swarm" So I like to bring howlrunner, then standard TIES, but I'm experimenting with throwing in a couple bombers or interceptors. I don't really want to spend a lot for an Advanced when I feel a good swarm can do the job just fine. Plus even though TIES are easy to kill, the psychological warfare aspect of such a big swarm is a genuine aspect to take into account.

4 As, 2 Bs, 3 Xs, Wedge or Luke, and Keyan at 400 points. As much as everyone seems to be turning on the X-Wing, I just love having them.

Don't force me to destroy you like I did Obi Wan.

I like running 4x Ywing + 3x Xwing + Wedge. If there are enemy fighters, I overwhelm them. If not, thats a lot of bombing runs.

Owen from Gaming eith The Cooler ran 10x TIEs once in a battle report. Quite entertaining!

Rebel, 3 types. Always.

As the Empire I average 3-4, as the Rebels 3.

With Boba coming out ships will need fighter support. A rogue ship that can move, deal a damage then attack every turn will make players crazy for at least some support

Playing as Imperials, I like to go with the proper fighter complements of the ships as best I can (points permitted). So atm with just my Victory its just 2 squadrons, when I get the ISD it'll be 8 squadrons total (4 Tie-fighters, 3 Tie-interceptors, 1 Tie-bomber) and so on. I've also ordered alternative fighter miniatures at a much smaller 1/2256 scale, so I can make proper 12 fighter strong squadrons.

If you paint those, you'll have to post pictures. :)

Just played in a tourney with 2xB, X, Y, and Tycho. I threw in the Y just because I like them....and it ended up surviving the most of any of the squadrons.

Because, SURPRISE! Its the best one for Rebels! Not joking, en masse its a scary fighter.

Hmm... so far, the common maximum seems to be 5 types, with a rare few that go up to 6 types. I wonder if the next wave will change this and we'll see even more types in a fleet build? But then again, diversifying your forces TOO much isn't always a good idea.
