Crack Shot - trigger timing

I just wanted to confirm the timing of Crack Shot's effect

The card reads:

"When attacking a ship inside your firing arc, you may discard this card to cancel 1 of the defender's [evade] results"

My understanding of the timing of this abiliy is that the trigger window is during the "Attacker Modifies Defense Dice" Step (which occurs before the Defender Modifies Defense Dice" step). This means Crack Shot can only cancel a natural evade result, not an evade result occuring from spending an evade token, spending a focus token, triggering Autothrusters or rerolling with Lone Wolf. Crack Shot *will* allow you to cancel an evade result coming from C-3PO, since C-3PO's extra evade result is added before the "Modify Defense Dice" step begins. Is this the correct reading of the card?

At the moment--that is, unless it receives an Accuracy-Corrector-style errata--this is correct. It triggers after all dice modifications, just before damage is assigned.

I agree that this is likely to happen in the Compare Results step. Which would also mean that an evade token could also be cancelled because it's treated as a dice result by that stage.

Whoops. Duh. In my brain I was so sure cancel was a modification option. My fail.

I never go about re-reading the rule book, so I thank you for this. Crack Shot earns a couple points in my book. Now, ships like Soontir Fel may have to OVER spend on tokens in order to not risk taking damage and losing that stealth device. In that case, another ship may get a shot against a token-less Soontir.

Crack Shot sure earned some points in my book. PTL + Crack Shot A Wings will surely see some table time by me.

I also like Howlrunner + Crack Shot, of course the PS 4 Ties + Crack Shot. Z 95 + Crack Shot isn't bad too, not many pilots to work with there though.

Yeah Crack Shot and Lightning Reflexes are finally some 1pt EPTs and discard EPTs that I want to use (VI not withstanding)
