Any idea if they will have a tournament for the new ships like they had last year for Imdaar Alpha?

I'm pretty sure we would have heard about it by now if that were going to be the case.

That's a shame. I actually took fourth in an Imdaar event ( I was rather proud of myself)

Really, in what market were they a disaster? In the Minneapolis/St Paul metro they were a bunch of fun and wildly successful for the stores that ran events. A few of us marathon gamed the Imdaar Alpha events and played almost 36 hours straight for 5 or 6 tournaments. It was awesome.

I know some stores just got kits and sold them on ebay, but it will pretty fun in a lot of areas.

He did say "behind the scenes". So the market in which they were a disaster was FFG HQ. They cost way more than they were meant to or they consumed time and resources meant for other projects or something.

I too would be interested in any additional information anyone has on that. That sort of behind the scenes info is fascinating to me.

That's sad to hear, those were my first events playing people other than my own kids, and it was great. I've been hoping for another release-type event ever since.

Dang, I wasn't around back then, but I was hoping to see more events like that as well.

kinda hard to do a preview with 2 scum ships and 1 empire/rebel ship apiece, esp when said empire/rebel ships can't actually be entirely used (extra munis + conner/clusters = might have need for 2 templates of which FFG only included half )

They'd just need to revamp the last wave rules/prizes, but it would be doable. In any case, I agree it's probably way too late to see this for wave 7, but maybe Ep. 7 stuff or wave 8 would be possible.

Also the lack of 2 mine tokens bugs me a little as well, at least in casual you can work around it, but not for a tournament.

My understanding is that both were "last minute" PR, as in there were unreasonable delays in getting the wave out to the masses, so they held the tournaments as an "apology" to the community and to get the limited stock they had out into our hands.

They may have made a financial loss on them, but they did a great job if they were intended the way I just explained.

This is something I have also heard.

And it makes it logistically difficult to hold a tournament using- as prizes- ships that you are holding a tournament as an apology for not having on shelves yet. Not impossible- they seemed to have pulled it off- but difficult. That sort of difficulty is always the sort of task that gives nightmares to behind the scenes people.

Team Covenant has one happening in their store at the end of the month.

I think Gencon is the pre-release for new ships instead of another Imadar Alpha type tournament.
