Chiraneau / Soontir - Slightly Different Build

By Darth Emphatic, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Below is my Chiraneau / Soontir build. It is slightly different from the norm, but I've shifted the last 5 points around a few different times. I've taken Gunner, but with firepower this thing spits out, it never triggers. I've taken Jerjerrod and a seismic charge, keeping the build at 99. I am really vacillating on what to do with that last 5 points.

I am not looking for a discussion on the merits of expose. I know the general consensus out there on the subject, but I have been generally happy with how this performs. I am really looking for feedback on how else to spend the 5 points remaining. I prefer not taking the Dauntless title because it causes stress itself and creates either double stress or shuts down the free evade from Ysanne. Opinions?

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

Expose (4)

Ysanne Isard (4)

Rebel Captive (3)

Experimental Interface (3)

Soontir Fel (27)

Push the Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

Stealth Device (3)

Royal Guard TIE (0)

What sort of enemies are giving you the most problems?

Sadly, as a lot of players are doing, I am building to beat brobots. That certainly opens up a lot of issues with other types of builds. because it hits hard enough, swarms haven't been a huge issue if I can stop the Deci from being blocked early. I am open to any suggestions.

I really like Darth Vader against Brobots, myself. Like OP said regarding Expose, there may be good arguments against Vader but he's worked for me, especially against lists like Brobots with relatively few total HP.

I'd say Gunner or Darth Vader given that both give you a guarantee of getting damage out of the RAC every turn. Darth Vader would also give you a 2 pt initiative bid against VI'd Brobots.

Expose is great on the RAC you just got to remember that with Ysanne you DONT trigger EI/Expose until the start of the combat phase after Ysanne gives you the evade action.

Thanks for the feedback, all.

I found that Gunner was a waste because I was putting too many hits into opposing ships for it to ever trigger. I considered Vader, but thought it super situational since I want that Deci around as long as possible throwing 4/5 dice. It was one thing I considered. I also like the initiative bid, but had considered if the 2 free points is worth putting a Seismic Charge out there or not. I considered running Jerjerrod with a Seismic Charge to still initiative bid at 99 and gain just a bit more survivability.

So, I guess the question is, Vader or Jerjerrod? Seismic Charge or no Seismic Charge?

Personally, I can't imagine flying a decimator without engine upgrade, so I don't see the Expose + EI as an option for myself, but YMMV.

The 'standard' RAC + Fel build I don't think really struggles against aggressors:

Chiraneau w/ predator, engine, rebel captive, isard & gunner = 65

Fel w/ PtL, royal guard, autothrusters & stealth = 35

I've never flown it, so I can't say with certainty, but I would think it does quite well against aggressors. Even with autothrusters, the combination of predator, gunner and RAC's pilot ability make sure damage sticks (so that means staying range 1-2 and avoiding R3 when possible; but not so for Fel---he wants to be either out of arc or at range 3 if in arc as much as possible). Also, having engine upgrade makes it less likely that both aggressors can shoot at RAC in the same turn...
