Hi all newbie here with a question

By mikef350, in X-Wing

Hi all

Just bought this game 2 days ago and starting to pick it up fast an I am realy enjoying the game.

I bought the core game along with rebel aces pack, tie fighter advance and e-wing plus lambda shuttle.

My mate is interested in collecting a small fleet around 100 point mark but my question is how do we find out how many points you are buying when purchasing the models?

I've moved to this game from a popular sci if game and when I wanted to expand them models I looked up in the codex to see how many points futre units would cost is there any thing like that in this game system

Thanks in advance

For points in a pack, you'll want a list of expansions by contents. There are a lot out there, and the useful links pinned post has resources.

This one is nice for being easy to read (but some cards come in multiples per pack and it doesn't show it). http://x-wing.fabpsb.net/extensions.php?lng=en

There's a tab for card lists that does show quantity per pack once you're looking for individual cards, but it isn't entirely correct. (IG-2000 comes with two dead man switches and two feedback arrays).

There are a lot of squad builders that get updated as soon as spoilers of new cards are provided to us.

I hope that helps a bit. Again, look at the useful links post for all the best resources.

The X Wing Miniatures Wiki is pretty helpful, tells you what comes in each pack.

I use the Wikia pages quite a bit.

You can see what is included in each expansion and if you are looking for a particular pilot or upgrade card, this site helps you find out where to get them.

Welcome rookie.

Welcome to the hobby.

Welcome to the hobby.

More of an addiction except much cheaper and less likely to end up with you down some dark alley after your next fix.

As an addict on a budget I can tell you if you want to get stuck around the 100 points you still end up owning 22 ships (thus far)

Because I wanted 100 point squads, but with possibilities for varieties, and of each faction, and then came a third faction, and then you realize you favour the heavier fighters and fighterbombers, and then....

Well, whatever your intentions, before you know it you own more than you thought you would!

But, that is not a complaint..., it is too much fun! :)

If you have an Android phone, you should go get the "X-wing Companion" app. It's free and it's AMAZING. It will show you ever card in the game and has it organinzed any way you want to look at them. Search the Elite Pilot Talents and find a cool one? Well, it tells you what blister it comes in on the bottom. Want to know what comes in each blister? You can search that way. Let's say you are poking around the Y-wing and want to know what types of Torpedoes there are? Just click on the little Torpedo and it takes you to all the options available without having to change your screen! It has all the dials and point costs, and everything. You can even look up the latest FAQ, as well.

You can spend hours looking at that thing.

Less likely but... well lets just say I'm not proud of everything I did to get a falcon when they were no where to be found.

Hey we all did what we had to.

Welcome to the life...

Getting 2 small expansion packs ($15-20 US) or 1 large expansion pack ($30-40 US) should boost one core faction to 100 point in conjunction with a core set easy. As long as you are not picking up TIE Fighter or Z-95 Headhunter.

If your partner is planning on getting a collection then start with a core set first even if you are sharing your collection. Then buy expansions from there.

My advice, use one of the squadron builders mentioned above or in the sticky. Plan a squad you like and move towards that. Don't buy an upgrade pack just for the card straight away. If you're playing with your friends just proxy it. If you decide to play in more competitive arenas (such as tournaments) you will need the original.

Personally, I love the Original Trilogy (OT) and have no interest in the Expanded Universe (EU). Therefore, I have only purchased expansions from the OT. It's what my friends and I enjoy. Find what you enjoy and run with it. Ignore the meta while you're starting. Play the ships you like using the upgrades you like. It'll be more enjoyable for you.

Finally, welcome. Like most fellas/fellettes here, you probably won't be going back to that 'other Sci-Fi game' anytime soon.

Welcome aboard!

Most ships you can run 3-4 in a list, notable exceptions being most large bases and TIE Fighters and Z-95 Headhunters (6-8 each).

I'll second what others have said, fly what you like.

Almost fell asleep when typing the previous post. So I forgot:

WELCOME!!
