X-wings - I want to play them....

By Dressy, in X-Wing

Thanks for the inspiration all. Not sure if I have Pork, but have most of the rest.

Think I might just copy some of these great lists, watch the suggested tube matches and just have fun with these iconic machines.

It's ironic that the game is called x-wing, but the games namesakes are not top tier.

Cool! Just wait a little longer... I do believe the NEW X-WING is coming in a few weeks, and that will certainly have some new retro-cards that will help the older model, which is still the only Wave 1 ship that has not gotten an ACES polishing.

The Episode 7 Expansion(s) is on the water right now...

X-WING%252520A1.png

Wedge Antilles

Biggs Darklighter

Rookie Pilot

Gold Squadron Pilot - BTL/A4, Ion Cannon Turret, R3-A2

I played a successful 3 X Wing list today:

Tarn Mison + R7 Astromech

Garven Dreis + R5-D8

Rookie Pilot + R5-P9

Blue squadron pilot

100 points. The PS is pretty low, but Tarn+ R7 is a pain for any opponent, and Garven can pass focus off to the rookie, who can use R5-P9 to regen his shields.

If I had a fourth X Wing, I would have swapped the Blue for a naked Rookie and put R2-D2 in place of R5-D8 (who never got used because Focus was a more useful action for Garven).

Beat a Decimator/Soontir list, but I had some lucky dice, sp that may not be totally representative.

I won the local Imdaar Alpha with Four X-wings. I played Wes, Tarn, and two Red Squadron Pilots.

Throw in some R2 Astromechs and you have a strong squad. X-wings are great ships, but players have to fly them properly.

Yeah they are... but as the only Wave 1 ship that has not gotten the Hollywood glimmer treatment casual players don't love it no mores...

:rolleyes::huh::lol:

That is a solid list. The Transport is a good little ship.

:)

Correction: The transport is a GREAT ship - full of nasty surprises, cheap enough to be a mobile battering ram, and an absolute b*****d to finish off if it survives to the end game.

For 113 points, something like this will have your opponent tearing his hair out, and leaves plenty of points for escorts:

GR-75 Medium Transport (57) GR-75 Medium Transport (30), Dutyfree (2), WED-15 Repair Droid (2), Raymus Antilles (6), Backup Shield Generator (3), Frequency Jammer (4), Combat Retrofit (10)

GR-75 Medium Transport (56) GR-75 Medium Transport (30), Quantum Storm (4), WED-15 Repair Droid (2), Slicer Tools (7), Backup Shield Generator (3), Combat Retrofit (10)

You are right. It just ammuses the dickens out of me when I see some ADD-flips screaming about how the EPIC ships suck.

Meh...

Go play da vid-Eee-I-Oh games kids.

Yeah - if anything the GR-75 is TOO good.

If it wasn't for the 5 Epic-point limit stopping you from fielding 3 naked GR battering rams for mere 90 points, they would be utterly overpowered.

Luke Skywalker w/VI & R5-P9

Wes Janson w/VI & R3-A2

Wedge Antilles w/Predator & R2-D2

Or

Tarn Mison w/R7 Astromech, Shield Upgrade, Prot Torps

Luke Skywalker w/R2-D2, Draw Their Fire, Shield Upgrade

Biggs Darklighter w/R4-D6 & Hull Upgrade

The first list is all offense... Wes shoots, strips tokens, stresses... Luke shoots, and Wedge delivers the hardest hit last reducing the opposing ship's AGI by 1 with 1 reroll...

The 2nd list is all about funneling damage to Biggs who can reduce any damage suffered over 2 by taking stress... Luke pulls crits for him which he regens with R2-D2... Luke and Tarn both as they are set up are monaters end game... This list is all about slow playing for the long game...

Hope you find something that works...

I recommend that first list too, I played it for a very long time.

OP: If you are looking for a few games that feature the X-wing (and this squad in particular) on YouTube, may I suggest;http://youtu.be/tj4Lbhmzs9I (I'm flying the XXX list in my signature)http://youtu.be/9bDNko19Jz0 (Same list, during a finals where I went 7-0 for the day)http://youtu.be/uBDX4H3sNgk (Same day XXX vs. XXXZ)

FCB makes a lot of X-wing videos so chances are that if you are looking to see specific ships used, there is probably a video of it up. Good luck with flying X-wings.

I'll share a secret, I stole it from you... <_<

I'm flattered!

If the X-wing does get a boost, I will most likely return to running this in tournaments. Until then, I'm leaving the concept shelved in pursuit of other X-wing related squads. Right now I have been running:

Two Dope Jedi, 95 points

Luke+Lone Wolf+R5-P9+Engine Upgrade+Ion Torpedoes (42) and Corran+FCS+PTL+R2-D2+Engine+Ion Torpedoes (53)

I like that one... How do you find it flies?

It's a work in progress, Luke tends to not last as long since (because they are easily destroyed) he basically aggros everything on the other team. Meanwhile Super Corran cleans house.

It's not scary when they see it until they can't stick damage on you then you see some really erratic end-game style flying. Of the 3 games I have played only 2 were victories, however...

Game 1, my opponent almost conceded when I took his scum Boba down to hull in the first engagement. I convinced home to play it out and he was able to land two consecutive (perfect) Proton bombs.

I haven't been able to play for a couple of weeks (due to reasons), but I'm planning on running it tomorrow and Wednesday at both of my league nights.

If you want to have fun and be thematic at the same time try:

Luke

Lone Wolf

R2-D2

Engine Upgrade

Han

MF Title

Lando

Chewie

Push The Limit

Engine Upgrade

99points

or swap Lone Wolf for PTL on Luke for 100pts.

Not going to win many tournaments but is really fun. And If you get good rolls with Lando you will really annoy people.

I would do Nien Numb instead of Chewie, and spend the 3 points on a missile or something

I was going for the most well known guys but this is also thematic to "Jedi" since Nien was Lando's Copilot on the 2nd Deathstar run.

Too bad you can't quite squeeze an effective list out of that 2nd run..

Lando with Nien, Title

Wedge

Tycho with Chardaan

is 99 pts.

Would be nice to throw another 10-15 pts of upgrades on these guys for some awesome fun.

A rookie with R2-D2 is one of my favorite ships to fly. It either gets attention which leaves your big boys around longer or it gets ignored and leaves a healing ship for late game. IMO it's a win win for the guy using it.

I used a rookie alongside two Green Sq and a Blue Sq today. The rookie was a great finisher and a good lure - the icing on a cake of hot laser death.

I won the local Imdaar Alpha with Four X-wings. I played Wes, Tarn, and two Red Squadron Pilots.

Yeah but only you and I and a few hundred of our fellow Star Brothers seen to even know that.

It's amazing how often things like that happen in X-Wing.

I've had games where I've lost two ships in the opening salvo for little to no, and gone on to win. I've had games where the exact same thing's happened to me.

Sign of a great game if you ask me - it's never over until the fat lady sings!

X-wings are great and in the near future I do expect to see FFG hand them something extra. There were some hints at GenCon in this direction.

I love Wedge with an R2 Astromech and Expert Handling

Or Wes with Veteran instincts and R5-P9, Luke with Opportunist and r2d2 and Garven with R2d6 with Opportunist

Wes shoots first, strips tokens, the others fire next. Garven gives his focus token to Wes so he can regenerate a shield.

You fly in formation, you are predictable, but you shoot like crazy :D

Or go with Wedge, Luke, and Biggs :D
