Dark Obsession Deployement Strategy

By Boba Rick, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Okay, after losing four in a row the Empire struck back and I won one.

Next mission is Dark Obsession. In this mission If Vader is standing next to a trooper, the damage can be diverted to the trooper. So should I bring in a ton of troopers?

On the other hand Royal Guards rock, and they give a free block to whoever they're standing next to. So, should I bring in a bunch of Royal Guards and surround Vader with them? What is the limit on the protection ability of Royal Guards?

Ideas?

I haven't played Dark Obsession but it seems very unlikely that the Rebels will kill Vader except very late in the campaign. Their main win con is to run the clock down and it's very easy for them to do that. You need to be wounding all the heroes as fast as possible. If you can get an E-web into a position where it's useful it would be good. Other than that Elite stormtroopers, Royal guards or Elite Probe Droids are good for damage.

It says right there on the royal guard card what the limit on protector is...

Thanks for adding nothing to the conversation other than being condescending! :-)

I went for a mix of the two, and I think the royal guard are more useful, the troopers were getting in the way once in the narrow corridor and the rebels could target Vader without a trooper being a viable target, I had Vader go down to a series of bad rolls right at the end (going to happen if the heroes throw enough dice) which was dramatic and great game, its actually one of the few missions I want to repeat as the IP.

To throw my 2 cents in the ring, it kind of depends which Imperial Class you're playing.

With Military Might, the Troopers become stronger and I would possibly recommend them.

The Nexu are always fun, and cheap, so I'm usually tempted to bring them along as they're great for mobility and bleed is a pain.

Page four of the rules reference under Allies, fourth point its in bold.

Sorry wrong topic.

What is the current threat level at? That would make a big difference. This mission is tough!! I played it at threat level 4, and really didn't stand a chance, you have to move Vader quickly. I think its 2 open groups right? I went with royal guards and trandoshians. I wouldn't recommend the trandoshians, basically I kept moving the trando's up front to get the additional damage from scattergun, and then I had royal guards, so it was all melee and cluttered that main hallway with the terminal. Plus I suffered a lot from Blast from Fenn and Brutal Cleave from the Wookie. I think units with good ranged attack are going to pay off more. I wish I would have gone with an Elite E-web instead. An E-web in that first Stormtrooper spawn point seems the best, b/c that hallway is where majority of the fight is going to go down. And this is one of the fun missions where you have to do more than just wound the heroes (This and Under Siege I really really like!). My thoughts are, keep Vader moving, heal him when you can, use him to open doors and force choke, and use all your other troops to focus on wounding the Heroes. Have fun!

I won doing Royal Guards and Trandoshans. The added strain by the trandos and the stun from the RGs did it. The Rebs were very mobile and forced me to split Vader off from the rest. I got it in the last round.
