So I am almost up to 100 subscribers (who knew people would listen to me. . . ) and I need ideas for a special to do when I hit that triple digit number. . .
Ideas?

Well since it's mostly video tutorials/demo's it's hard to say "Try and get guests on".
Hope they show off more from Wave 2 and do something on that?
Wave 2 unboxing? Lol jks.
I've been planning to start my own Armada channel but just haven't had the time. So here's an idea for you. Start a 'meta breaker' channel and show us ways of breaking the popular meta like say the gencon top4.
Good luck mate!
Hmmmm meta breaking sounds interesting. Thankfully I have 3 of every ship. . .
Hi Lyraeus, I enjoy your vids, and found them very helpful. The lads in our group( including myself ). when first learning the game found it difficult to wrap our brains around picking the right objectives. Perhaps a tutorial on choosing the right ones for different builds for us rookies.
Thanks again and keep up the good work!
I was thinking something like "combos in action" where you have follow up battle reports where you use it in a game. Make sure to keep it sumerized nicely.
Alternatively you can have a how to beat this combo part 2 to all of the combo time videos
You can also do discussion about individual ships, I.e. how to use a nebulon effectively by using titles and jousting ect.
Edited by clontroper5I would also put all of your videos in playlists.
Combo time
How does it work
Etc
Right now the hot topic (on this forum and in conversation) seems to be about squadrons. Maybe build on Edsel62's theory (as put into mathematical language by Blail Blerg) of "none > few > many > none", the discussion on which you can find here: Killed by Squadrons.
I also agree with Shadowmax, that a video on objectives would be really good.
As an online college instructor, I do have a couple of suggestions about delivery:

As an online college instructor, I do have a couple of suggestions about delivery:
- Be clearer and more focused on each video's purpose and content. Shorter might also be better.
- In your title and/or in the opening discussion, make it clear what level of understanding the video is aimed at. As such, also develop a taxonomy that ranges from simple how-to-play videos to advanced strategic considerations.
- Also, develop a taxonomy of topic types. Are you explaining the best-practices of the game mechanics, what ships/squadrons/upgrades counter what other ships/squadrons/upgrades (call that tactics, if you will) or are you explaining what things to keep in mind in response to other people's decisions (given the 'meta', what sort of squadrons, if any, one should bring - call that strategy, if you will).
I have yet to start the tactics portion of the channel but it is on my list of things to do.
It is hard to be shorter on videos since I have to cover several things and explain how they work. How would you compress one of my 10+ minute videos? What would you do to drop it down under 10?

I can't say that for any specific video. In general, editing is harder than composing.
It seems like you create the videos in a 'stream-of-consciousness' sort of way, rather than by using more careful scripting and post-production. I understand why you do that. Scripting, sticking to a script, and post-production are very tiresome. They're so tiresome that in my job I don't tend to do videos very much because I don't have/make the time for it. But, I think that's a mistake on my part because video - when done right - is a very powerful medium, but it also takes a bit of skill to do it well.
In your case it's probably also because you don't have the necessary equipment. That's something, I think, we can solve.
Yea I don't do much editing. My mind works through things fast so if I did sections and stopped so that I could edit where needed, we'll I would lose my train of thought. You see it a lot in my videos such as the critical effects video where I start going through how Overload Pulse works then transfer on explains something else before working on that area again
Ive watched all of the vids you have put up so far, thanks for taking the time and effort to do them. I definitely agree with the suggestions above that Objectives would be a good topic. The recent topic on here "12 Pictures of a Demolisher Eating a Yavaris" was really interesting, Ive actually suffered with Nebs getting destroyed in pretty much exactly the way originally described in there so Id love to see some possible rebel counters to this sort of strategy. The "none > few > many > none" topic seems like it could work well also, its certainly quite topical at the moment
Since the event (getting to 100 subscribers) is about the subscribers perhaps you could hold a drawing and let the winner pick the topic for a future show?
Love the channel and don't mind the length at all - I'd watch even longer shows.
Perhaps you could go through the objectives one at a time and talk about the pros and cons of each one?
Perhaps bring on a guest from the community... One of the IFF guys or someone form the Gencon tourney?
Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching! ![]()

Ohhh I like that. . . I know plenty of people I can do that with. . . Would have to change the style of filming though. Instead of talking as I film I would have to voice over. . . HmmmmmSince the event (getting to 100 subscribers) is about the subscribers perhaps you could hold a drawing and let the winner pick the topic for a future show?

Perhaps get someone to speak about the Rebels and you could speak about the Imperials (or vice versa). Then you could discuss the objective from both perspectives. The structure seems to write itself.
Just some ideas.

Those all work.
Just checked today! I am up to 104 subscribers!!! SO STOKED!!!
Now the difficult question. . . do I use youtube to bring in a tiny revenue for my time or do I keep it as such without. . .
Hey Lyraeus, one of my hobbies is carving, my time is worth $ when it comes to someone purchacing said carvings. This ain't no different my friend, how much is your time and effort worth to you?
If you put it out there for free, so be it, but no one will fault you for getting a proper return for your effort, especially if you invest $ into more filming gear and editing stuff, blah,blah...
Either way, keep it up, time will tell.
Cheers mate! ![]()

Very good job so far, Lyareus, like the channel and don't mind the length at all. I would really like to see something like an AAR; discussion about which combo did well / did not.
Hmmm I can do that for my games. . . Hmmmm maybe I can get some interviews in from my area. . .
I think I will do that as part of my "State of the Meta" segments. This was recommended by a reddit user.
