What Species Would You Like to See?

By Kael, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Mandalorian

Kaminoan

Gammorrean

Jawa

My wish list used to be five, with Hutt being the biggest (literally) race I wanted to see, but since I thought about it FFG provided.

i want to see a ubesa

Weird, alien and interesting species. No human variants or near-humans please!

You can use the standard human for that... ;D

I would like to see "create your own species" rules. Or child versions of all existing species or a "Kid" template to add on any or most species. That would be awesome!

Gamers like near-humans because they like the idea of playing something that's mostly human but with an edge of alien sexiness to it. See elves, Vulcans, et. all.

It's going to be a hard sell getting anyone to play a Brizzit, Vuvrian, Wol Cabasshite or Troig as anything but camp or laughs.

You can play weirder and more alien characters than that in most superhero games! :D And FFG SW already features a few weird ones, from Hutt to Xexto, Chadra-Fan to Chevin. No reason why Star Wars species shouldn`t feel just as alien as they do the first time you enter the Mos Eisley Cantina!:) Near-Humans feel more like Star Trek than Star Wars to me and, yea, elves like you said... There are of course room for a few sexy Twi`leks...

I wouldn't say Near Humans are more Star Trek than Star Wars. Star Wars has always featured a strong cast of near humans. Popular ones too. Mandalorian's are insanely popular with the fanbase. As are the Echani and Arkanani have also been popular with the fans over the years.

Fair enough :) ... But aren`t human Mandalorians, you know, human?...

Fosh and Miraluka. Visas Marr from Kotor2 really sold them for me.

If Corellians get a Near human stat block I'm sure the Mandolarians aren't far behind. Also another popular near human race, the Chiss.

They are human variations, not near humans I think. Yes, we have Chiss already.. Blue humans :P Do they all have Admiral Thrawn personalities? Like Corellians have Han Solo qualities(do they?)..

Making Han Solo copies and more Jango/Boba Fetts just waters out cool characters and makes them less cool to me.

Variations are fine.. But less stereotypes would be nice. Like Hutts, it was nice that they mentioned that not all of them are thugs and crimelords.

Rishii, Shard and Neti :D

Giving them species stats isn't the same as making them stereotypes. You can play a Corellian without it being Han Solo using the race stats for them. It being a copy of Han Solo would be more to the choices the player makes about career and specialization than anything else. By that same token the Chiss are not all Thrawn clones. But they do have species stats for people who like them. Still they do qualify as near humans and I only mentioned them to support my point that near human races have played a big role in Star Wars.

Yea, I know. Good point:) Always cool to have more options in a roleplaying game.

The hardest part is always waiting for the next 3. I almost want them to do a species book just to have more and to have them all located in one book.

Corellians aren't Near-Human. They're a variant on the basic Human stat block in order to make them more unique/special than your "average" galactic homo sapiens.

I imagine Mandalorian Humans will have a starting bonus in Brawl or Melee or something appropriately Death Watch/Jango-Boba Fett-y.

I can't wait for

Geonosians but since Verpine are out I can wait a little longer ;)

Gungan woul be nice to ;) (even I grow up with the "old" movies, I always loved Jar Jar Binks! hey he is the reason for the Imperium)

Selkath I want more aquantic species !

Humans and near-humans are to boring ;)
