Yet Another "going to tournament and need help with list"-post

By Nikolishin, in X-Wing Squad Lists

This a yet another post about "going to a tournament and need help with the list"...

I am reaching out to you, since I obviously can't use the local community as "sparring partner".

I have major difficulty to choose which list that I should be flying with in the upcoming tournament. I am currently considering one of the following lists (but not fixed to - I am open to ideas and suggestions):

• 4 x B-wing/E2 with tactician

• Patrol Leader Decimator with Vader Crew + 3 x Scimitar TIE Bomber with prox.mine

• 4 x Sigma Phantoms

• BBBBZ

• "Panic Attack style"; 3 x B-wing/E2 with tactician + Gold Y-wing with Ion Cannon Turret and R3A2

I expect a wide range of different style opponents, but at least I am expecting:

Soontir and or RAC Decimator

Fat Chewie and or Super Dash

Brobots

So, finally; what to choose?

I won store championship with bbbbz

Regrettably didn't fly it at regionals. If I could go back again I'd definitely fly that.

It's a beast, but like anything, if you haven't practice with it, it may not fair well.

There is no win list without practice

I'm a big fan of the 4xB-wing list. From what I've seen, BBBBZ tends to just have 12pts of ablative armour, that doesn't really do much at all. So better to make the "working parts" of the list a bit better than to bring along the Z. Makes games a tiny bit quicker too.

Have you thought about dropping tactician and either putting flechette cannons or a fire control system on each one? FCs can be useful against 2-ship lists for popping stress on at leisure, and FCS is a helpful reminder of what you're doing (as well as upping damage to boot).

The "Panic attack" list is nice too. Maybe change the astromech to a standard R2 for more green maneuvers (an Ion Y with stress may as well not be on the board), and consider flechettes or FCS on the Bs for the same reasons above.

I would take Panic Attack it would be the most effective with the right flying against what you looking to fly against

panic attack is, imo, the most reliable experience simply because its success is alienated from dice (victory from pure positioning of the control mechanics; not nearly as dice-dependent as something like BBBBZ)

I don't know if the BBBBZ has what it takes to take down Soontir?

Where I consider 4 x B-wing/E2 with tactician and Patrol Leader Decimator with Vader Crew + 3 x Scimitar TIE Bomber with prox.mine to be a better counter to Soontir - but maybe the Decimator and TIE Bombers don't have what it take to damage the Fat Chewies

I'd go with either the Decimator+Scimitars build or the Panic Attack build. The former has lots of health and Vader can deal with aces (Corran, Soontir). The latter can deal with anything really and can be most effective/annoying. I've faced Panic Attack three times now and I have yet to beat it. :-) As a variant, maybe one B-Wing could have an Ion Cannon instead of Tactician, to help ionize large ships in one round.

I may have to admit that I have not had enough training with the 4 x Sigmas, and will remove them from the shortlist...

Is the 4 Sigma list really viable? It just seems to me that 3 Shadows with ACD and FCS would be much better. Then again, I have only ever flown one phantom at a time.

Wow that Ion cannon on a B sounds like the clincher I need to make a Panic Attack list i can love.

The thing about Tactician is that it doesn't hamper your firepower while the Ion Cannon does. Ion Cannon also has to hit, while Tactician doesn't.

I've run 4 Taco Bells before. What happens is that a PtL Corran with EU and a dumb turret with EU will just shenanigan out of range 2. I run the Y Wing almost solely for the stressbot and the guaranteed (double with the title) stress. You can just dump stress on things until they can't ditch it which makes them easy to predict and then further stress.

ACD isn't as useful on low-PS ships, as you only get the mobility from the decloak, as opposed to the added defense as well.

Still, the mobility's quite useful. Folks tend to prefer the Stygium Accelerator on Sigmas/Shadows.

I Plan to Run 2 Bs Blue, with FCS and HLC

with HWK Jan Ors, Predator, Blaster Turret, Kyle and Hull

as a counter to the stress list.

FCS and Kyle work regardless of stress.
