Asteroids and damage

By mtrein, in X-Wing

Wouldn't it make more sense if you had to roll your evade dice instead of an attack dice when going over an asteroid? More agile and nimble ships would have an easier time (i. e. a tie fighter would roll 3 dice, a decimator would always take the damage).

This is X-Wing... the whole game is made up of rules that make no sense! :D

In this case, either an asteroid impact would always be a crit or it would always be a regular hit. This would either significantly increase or significantly decrease the threat posed by impact.

So I don't think it would make more sense, no.

Fun gameplay > rules that make "real" world sense.

While yes it would be very thematic, in reality you would have cloaked TIE Phantoms plowing through asteroids all the time, and Decimators that avoid them like the plague (depending on the damage values), so it probably wouldn't be as fun as you'd hope.

The game does take this into account with base size, ship dials and boost/barrel roll actions.

An single hit/crit would have a fairly high chance of being avoided by three dice. The whole point is to make it so bigger, less agile ships would have more trouble than small, agile ships.

That depends on what is fun for you. For me, having bigger, less agile ships more scared of asteroids would be more fun.
