First Epic Match... lots of questions!

By VaynMaanen, in X-Wing

Played my first Epic match with my friend! I sported the brand new Raider and Punisher I got at Gencon, while he flew the Corvette and the Rebel Transport, with one of the new K-Wing pilots.

Though we had a very fun game, a lot of questions arose as there are a lot of rules clarifications that are required that I can't find in the FAQ or Epic Tournament rules, however with some understanding as some of these components are new. Here are some of them:

•The Raider can perform 2 primary weapon attacks. My guess is one from the Fore arc and one from the aft arcs? Or can you attack twice through any arc?

•Esege Tuketu's ability allows it to let friendlies use their focus token as their own. Could the Corvette use this ability to modify its attack/defense rolls?

•If both the Transport and Corvette are being flown together, can the Corvette recover shields then have the Transport coordinate reinforce? (Two actions same section)

•When bombs are placed, as the huge ship maneuver template is on the ships side, if the template overlaps but the ship doesn't, does the ship still have to roll for damage? (ex. Prox mines)

•We ended the game by this point, but an interesting situation would have come up next turn: The fore section of the Corvette was crippled, and the Raider was in front of it. My opponent was planning on ramming into my side and make me take face up damage and have no repurcussions, since the rule book states the affected section takes damage, but the crippled section does not take additional damage cards.

Overall a great experience, and I guess this is the result of playing with prereleased product, but I'm curious to hear your interpretation of the rules. Thanks guys!

The raider has a forward primary value. It can perform 1 attack from there and 1 from each equipped secondary weapon (assuming energy reqs)

The first part of the Focus, Evade, and Stress Tokens section on page 4 starts with "Focus, evade, and stress tokens do not affect Huge ships.", so no, Esege's ability shouldn't work with a Huge ship.

Transport would activate at PS3 and perform an action, then the Corvette would activate at PS4, Coordinate with Fore section, THEN Recover with Rear section. The important thing here is again on page 4, "Huge ships cannot take free actions.", so no, the Corvette couldn't pass a free action to the Tranport with Coordinate

This one doesn't seem to be mentioned, but huge ship templates DO NOT count for obstacle overlap, so it's likely they don't for bombs either.

Look at both cards. The Fore has an attack value while the rear doesn't. All attacks are from the fore.

Not sure on this as I think it states that epic ships can't use a Focus. So, I would say no, but I'd have to re-read that section again.

You can never do the same action twice in a turn. I think this does mean you can do 2 actions, though.

I wouldn't. I think that's stupid. Rules as written say yes, but I think rules as intended would mean no.

Actually, you do roll for the ramming ship. Any time an Epic hits something, you roll for damage. If you hit a small ship or asteroid, you roll one die. If you hit a bigger ship, you roll 2 dice. So, if the two rammed, I would think they both rolled 2 dice damage.

Huge Ship overlap states that you bump and both affected sections take a face up damage card. However, crippled sections do not take damage cards. This leads me to interpret that the fore section can now be used as a invulnerable battering ram, which is a pretty unfair advantage IMO.

meine gott...

That about covers it actually. The Esege question did make me pause but no, until possibly FAQ, Huge ship's can't use focus. Templates don't matter for bombs. Ramming into or with a crippled section only the impacting sections take crits and yes that send unfair but in reality isn't. I could destroy your front section with my raider and then ram it myself because I didn't think far enough ahead to have my trajectory carry me away.

Did u follow asteroid rules for epic?

Huge ship rule:

Focus, evade, and stress tokens do not affect huge ships. When a huge ship receives any of these tokens, immediately remove them and return them to the token supply.

As the corvette does not recieve the kwings token the corvette can spend it. until a biggs like rule is made (still wondering about jonus/howl runner for raider) it should be allowed.

If I remember bombs do no affect epic ships
