Power Surge Question

Hello all! I am busting out descent for the 3rd time ever and was looking over the rules and was wondering if we had been playing the power surges wrong.

When we have been playing we have been using the damage and the power surge on the same dice, and in the rules it says you MAY use the power surge.

So let's say take the green dice for example.. I roll 1 green dice and I get 2 damage with a power surge on it... Do I get both the damage AND the power surge, or do I have to choose between receiveing the damage or the power surge?

Any information would be great!

No you are fine. You may always use all the symbols on the Red, Blue, White, Yellow and Green dice. The only time you have a choice about what symbols to use on the dice are with Power Dice and you roll and enhancement so you choose between the 1 range or the 1 damage.
