When a character commits to a story, does he or she remain committed until the story is resolved?

Or can you pull them back when you refresh and commit to another story next time?

As per page 13 of the rules (the Detailed Turn Sequence), there's a small green box at the end of '5. Story Phase', just before 'End of Turn', where characters are uncommitted from stories.

So, in practical terms, after you've resolved all struggles, played any responses or additional Story Phase actions, then characters are uncommitted just before the next player starts their turn.
