Changes in Cards from Preview to Release?

By superdave, in X-Wing

As I've been reading through material about the upcoming (we hope) Wave 8 stuff, I was struck by the thought that these items are several months from release and may change between now and then. Do any of you remember other cases where cards (or dials or token sheets or what-have-you) spoiled or previewed were changed- significantly or insignificantly- from the preview to the release? Just curious, and wondering what FFG's track record is (and what we might see change in the W8 ships).

The Scyk's dial, found in a URL hunt, turned out to have white bank 1, but the released version have them as green.

I can't remember the specifics, but I do remember an instance of a card text change between preview and publication.

I don't really count the scyk dial thing since FFG never made the wrong dial public.

Armada had a couple instances of card text changing significantly.

Very, very rarely does it happen.

They changed the name of the A-Wing Test Pilot title, but not the card text. (It was originally announced as "Prototype Veteran")

I have followed the game's announcements closely since Wave 3 and the only time I've seen card text changed is in the Rebel Aces set. You mentioned the A-wing title. There also appeared to be some changes to specific wordings on pilot text and other upgrades, if you were to compare the very first article's spread image to the final game text. That is simply conjecture, though, as it could just be a spacing adjustment in the final card art.

This game has a ridiculous lead time in the development stages. By the time an article is released, ALL of the card text in the ships in that article is final in most situations. I know some people in testing, and while they are quite tight-lipped about specifics before the are announced, they have told me that after we know the card text of a card, that they had been testing that card 9 months to a year prior. The only thing that may change is a point value here or there. But once we have seen the contents of an expansion in the spread image, all of that text has been in testing and been finalized for quite some time.

It's not been finalized, because it does in fact change.

There's been a number of cases with that in Armada, and I remember at least one card in X-Wing, but I can't remember which card now. It was a crew upgrade I think.

Well according to the picture, Valen Rudor (the ps6 prototype pilot) has no text. I'm pretty sure that will change.

Thanks!

There's a huge difference between there being no final rules text for the PS6 pilot and there being no rules text visible in the card fan. Errors and omissions in FFG's online articles aren't exactly unprecedented.

I was surprised to find that my Scyk actually had the wrong dial information printed on its movement card, but the dial itself was correct. Kind of weird.

I recall that the original version of the K-wing preview article showed a 3 turn either on the dial or in one of the pictures however I believe that has been changed and I cant find the original anywhere now

It was Paul Heaver's example-tactics article, not the preview per se. The example manouver set included a hard 3; the scenario was then adjusted in short order to show a bank 3.

ah yes you are right, I wonder if the absence of the manoeuvre on the dial would have changed his opinion of the ship?

Hounds tooth had an extra shield In the first preview. However that was quickly edited

In armada they changed the maneuver tool.
