Wave 7=Bad News for Plano Fans

By patox, in X-Wing

Taking the wing and engine assemly off is quite easy. It comes off in 1 piece. I just did it and it took me less than 5 minutes. The assembly has a long tab and 2 posts that mount it back on without a problem so no glue or tac is required and it comes apart for storage quite easily. I flipped the houndstooth upside down and gently got a very small slotted screwdriver in between the bottom of the wing where it sits on the body. I worked at both sides and you can hear the glue come apart. A bit more on each side and it pops right off for easy storage. I was surprised at how easy it was. I have done 3 of them and only on 1 of them did one of the 2 posts crack. The other 2 came off nice and clean. The one with the post broken also goes back on nice and snug so no issues. Your mileage may vary so do it at your own risk.

Thing is, how sturdy is it when you pop it back on?

I can't recall what Plano case I use (I'll edit my post when I find it) but the tray is just tall enough for the Hound's Tooth if I flip it upside down and tilt it a little bit. It's a tight fit and looks like it might get crunched but it works without the lid putting pressure on it.

You have to wiggle it back on and then wiggle it off when you want to store it. I can shake it vigorously while upside down and it doesn't move. It has 2 cylindrical posts and a long flat tab for alignment and that hold it in place. All 3 of ours are like this and even the one where one of the round posts broke, stays on without issue.

I will say FFG has done a nice job at making these sturdy but breakable, if that makes any sense. I had my CR-90 on display and a shadow box I had hanging on the wall fell onto it and knocked two or three of the engine pods off. I was all ready to bust out the glue when I noticed they simply popped right back in again. They're slightly loose if you deliberately try to wiggle them (which some glue would likely fix) but they're just fine for display or play.

I have pictures but can't see how to attach them. I've done it before but don't see the option now. Did they remove that or did it just stop working for Firefox?

If anyone can explain how to attach pictures I have 2 showing them together and apart.

Plano FTW.
