Wave 7=Bad News for Plano Fans

By patox, in X-Wing

The dependable, go-to, tried-and-true Plano 3700 may have met it's match.

It houses small ships with ease.

The YT-1300? YT-2400? Not a problem.

Even the, Lambda shuttle. It was a bit of a stretch, but it still fit. The Decimator? Squeezed in.

But now with Wave 7, the Hound's Tooth looks like it just might be a bit toothy.

I'm clearing the epic ships from the top compartment and buying some foam.

Guy at the FLGS popped the engine-and-wing assembly off, magnetized it, and made the whole ship flat-packable.

I was expecting as much. Unless this thing had folding wings, there was no way it would fit in my case.

Magnets may be a solution, though I've never done it before and will need to read some how-to guides.

I figured as much. At least the Ghost won't fit either, so it will have company. Well, as I'm pulling out Imperial ships of my normal case to make room for the influx of Kihraxz I plan on getting, I keep thinking about popping them in my GW skirmish case (with the new zigzag foam). Maybe the Hounds Tooth and Ghost will join them there.

How tall is it, exactly? 2" or under?

Ugh, the panel lines crossing on the top hatches. Lazy, stupid design work.

Crap I hadn't even thought of that, I use foam trays so I might be okay with what I have...

if it was sitting flat is there clearance to close the lid? If so, just cut into the row above to give those tail fins some room.

looks like it...... bit off more than it can chew.

I don't have one yet to measure, but I have been estimating at least 3" in each dimension.

To what are you referring? The teeth painted on the top?

I don't know what you're talking about. I got mine to fit. :P

If you only owned TIEs you wouldn't have this problem.

I was able to fit mine just fine! Don't panic :)

What I hear you saying, here, is that the cure is worse than the disease.

People still use Plano for storage? :)

I actually saw the Hound's Tooth for the first time today in person at the Team Covenant Store (on display) and it is HUGE. Sorry MajorJuggler, I do not have exact measurements :(

I started storing all of my ships on their bases in a magnetized fashion inspired by RDT2 http://imgur.com/a/zlgTu. I put my own spin on it by using washers and painting the bottoms of the bases only (as opposed to the outside of the base), but storing everything on their base is awesome. Quick and easy deployment of any ships. I also use a case that is more square and taller, so I do not have height problems with any ship to date. The Hound's Tooth should be fine. Worst case scenario I drop it down to one peg.

Thank you, however this is actually NOT my specific solution. It was simply the link I found online that inspired my solution. Maybe some day I'll post pictures of mine :)

When I saw the topic title, I thought maybe there was some problem with he plastic in the Wave 7 ships that had a reaction with the storage boxes.

Glad that wasn't the case.

Can you take some more pics of the Hounds Tooth model? I'm trying to decide if I want to buy it or not, and having a really great model would be a plus
