First Order Star Destroyer image

By maxam, in Star Wars: Armada

Well, at least many bothans died to bring them this information! They will have to sacrifice a lot more to find out the new SD layout makes little sense, at least in what I would consider scifi pseudologic. And to be fair, the weakness of our second death star was not a tad different from our first one, except that the first one had an intact hull and stuff..

Design-wise I think it is more than a bit uninspirational to place one SD on top of a slightly bigger SD.. boy, if they ever come up with a new advanced death star I seriously hope they refrain from merging to spheres together ..

If it had to be a triangle-thingy, why not going with tetrahedrons, or merging SDs with 45 or 90° offset along the axis?

A pair of Death Stars joined together would be a very ballsy move :D

Sorry for Double Post

Hmm.

I hope they retain the "lots of guns, you just don't see them" theme of starwars, where they have turbolaser fire just digitally edited sprouting from ship points.

Those look like some biiiiig turrets on the sides their, and they look very sci-fi, not worldwar 2 inspired.

But otherwise holy hell is that going to be a detailed model. That thing basically screams death, or something! Wow. Bridge looks a little out of place, but I am sure that's just the camera angle.

Also seeing how no one else has posted it you can find said preview here.

Wow that's uh... that's not very well written.

Disappointing.

Wow have to agree...

The mad cheers of the crowd as they pull, and pull, and pull.

Normally when an author tries to describe something they utilise some figure of speech like a simile - or something? heck even an adjective would have helped? Nope just Pull 3 times. Is that them just sucking really bad at pulling so having to do it three times, or maybe pulling 3x harder than usual? We will never know...

It’s nice up here. Quiet.

No TIE fighters. No blasts across the bow of his X-wing. No X-wing, in fact, and though he loves flying one, it’s nice to be out. No Death Star—and here, Wedge shudders, because he helped take down two of those things. Some days that fills him with pride. Other days it’s something else, something worse. Like he’s drawn back to it. The fight still going on all around him. But that isn’t today.

Today, it’s quiet.

Wedge likes the quiet.

He pulls up his datapad. Scrolls through the list with a tap of the button on the side. (He has to hit it a few extra times just to get it to go—if there’s one thing he looks forward to when all this is over, it’s that maybe they’ll start to get new tech. Somehow, this datapad had actual sand in it, and that’s why the buttons stick.) The list of planets clicks past. It’s nice up here. Quiet.

It sounds more fanfiction than novel, but I would still read it just to get the jist of what has changed.

Could do some really interesting paint jobs where the top wedge is a different color than the bottom wedge.

Finalizer is a goofy name I agree, but this is an incredible Star Destroyer design. Almost a perfect interim design between the familiar Imperial and the now-legends Pellaeon-class. I'd love to see more of her kind, and I can't wait to see her on the big screen.

I wonder how long it will be before we see one here in Armada. And when we do, how much different will/should it be from the Imperial?

The top (not command bridge) looks like a Victory Class Star Destroyer? What?

Naboobo2000

So looking at that top layer, the upper portion looks very similar to the imperial-class star destroyer sans the neck and bridge. It looks like the First Order built a star destroyer using the partial hull of an imperial class and built a ship around it.

So my (probably wrong) interpretation is that the Finilizer could be either a) a unique ship using what parts the first order had access to, or b) one of a new class of ship that is being made using parts left over from the galactic civil war by whomever manufactures stuff for the first order.

I havn't read any spoilers so this is all hypothesis, but my idea depends on how powerful the first order is. We know that the new republic is around in some form so the first order isnt in control of the entire galaxy at least, so either they could be a separate nation/imperial remnant with its own territory, or a semi-mobile orginization/terrorist group that strikes from hidden bases to harass the galaxy (basically the evil version of the rebel alliance) which makes the Finilizer being a unique ship more likely.

So pumped for this movie.

Can't wait to see some on my table!

Does that only have one shield generator on the bridge?

So, hilariously, the Finalizer wasn't finalized in dry dock.

If you look at the jags in the hull and lack of bridge tower, it seems like an unfinished SD that was hastily cobbled together and cut loose. The New Order obviously has some infrastructure problems and is pressing half-made vessels into service. I'd be interested to see what the Republic ships look like.

I see a lot of reuse of templated design components/subsystems

Hmm, I don't see that at all. I see a very cool looking new design.

I believe you're right!

The crowds throw up chains and ensure that they're securely wrapped around the statue of the former, hated Emperor. Coordinating their efforts with two speeders they had attached to the other end of the chains, the assembled crowds then pulled with all their might. With each heave of the chains, the revving speeders jerked forwards. Cheers erupted as the first cracks appeared along Palptines neck; the sound of which was drowned out by the sound of the shouting, cheering masses.

"Once more!" Shouted one of the crowd seeing the head of the statue begin to shift, "all together in three, two, one....."

With a loud crack, and a spray of shattered stone, the head of Palpatine broke off to the sound of a celebrating populace. Once tightened chains, now loosened, rattled and snaked to the ground, narrowly missing the shin's of those who'd been pulling at them. Some of the crowd rushed in to retrieve and raise the decapitated head.

"Behold", one shouted, "the tyrant's dead!"

How was that?

P.S. Thanks for the better images of the Finalizer. The top, front and side views made it look far cooler than other pictures. Now when is FFG going to make this for Armada?

You change tense halfway through the second sentence.

Not bad for shooting from the hip as an amateur though

Personal thing I enjoy about Star Wars fandom, or really fandom in general: everything old is awesome, everything new sucks.

Example:

Ralph McQuarrie is a genius artist that defined sci-fi in my childhood. New things come out that much better capture his style in action, abominations! Jar Jar Abrams is ruining everything just to be different, just use the old stuff! I like the old stuff!

Example 2: Executor sounds cool, Finalizer sounds dumb. Because Home One and Death Star are great names. Red squadron is super original. If it wasn't in Star Wars originally and you read the phrase "But I was going to go to Tashi station and pick up some power converters!" You'd think it was from Buck Rodgers style schlock.

Example 3: Jack Nicholson is the best Joker ever and this RomCom actor from that stupid Knight's Tale movie will ruin everything.

Could these movies be terrible? Sure, I've seen Attack of the Clones like everyone else. But I've seen Dark Knight too. I've also re watched the originals lately and there is pleeeeenty to make fun of there (teddy bears killing the empires best troops for example) you couldn't release those today exactly as they are and not have fans crap all over all of them.

I don't know why I'm rambling, just something funny I like to watch and read.

I don't think Finalizer is stupid because it's new. It just sounds stupid.

For the record, i also think quite a few names from the original trilogy are stupid, think JJ is doing a great job based on the trailers, and really likied Revenge of the Sith.

So...yeah. And i grew up on the originals, even seeing Empire in the cinema :D

I really enjoyed the Star Trek movies of JJ Abrams. So I have high hopes for the sequel trilogy.

I enjoyed the Prequels. Well, except for Jar Jar Binks, cry baby Anakin with terrible lines and even Padme. Oh and medichlorians. Other than that I enjoyed them.

But bad writing is bad writing and I'm not wasting money on what is unredeemably terrible. However, I gather that if I ignore the story there's a lot of good info and hints among the flashes in Aftermath.

I mean I like the ship, the name doesn't bother me or anything and I'm excited for the film.

on the subject on the aftermath book however, its not that the story is bad or anything it's just terribly written with wooden uninteresting characters. I was told it was a book about the continuing conflict between the rebel alliance and the remnants of the empire in the wake of endor and instead I got a book about a boring mom trying to reconnect with her alienated boring son and their two boring sidekicks. oh and wedge is in there for like, 2 chapters.

Now the interlude chapters were awesome, where can I get a book of just that stuff?

Haven't read aftermath yet personally, and the rest of the new books have been hit and miss for me. Oddly, the comics have been much better.

I was just commenting in general on fandom, some of my examples were from this thread, some not, but it was a general theme I felt. It really pops up whenever Rebels is discussed.
