Edit: "Finalizer"? egads.
My thoughts exactly!
Note to JJ: "...get a better name, fast! Mess this film up, and everyone will be calling you Jar Jar Abrams."

I still have my reservations about Abrams... This film would have to be pretty immaculate for me not to bust him hard.
According to the Essential Guide to Warfare, the empire only lost 15 of the 30 destroyers assigned to Death Squadron, including the Executor and the Death Star.
and only 10% of the enitre fleet was stationed at Endor. Plus there were 3(?) other SSD's in service aside from the executor.
I'm sorry, but that new Star Destroyer is ugly… They're messing with the design only to show how tech has "advanced" in the intervening years. "Look! Even the Star Destroyers are improved!"
Yeah, the "Finalizer" (What are her sister ships? The Decision– maker? The Finisher? The Completer?) is so advanced and powerful, we've put a lower deck that juts so far out from under the top deck that the upper weaponry won't be able to depress enough to shoot downwards. But really, what are the chances the rebels will figure that out, right? I mean they found that one weakness to the first Death Star, then they found the weakness to the second Death Star, but come on, a third time in a row? Unlikely!
The jutting bottom hull looks like a protruding lower jaw, just awful. With a name like Finalizer, it better be pretty fast!
Love the name, love the design.
Just as silly a name as a "Death" "Star".
Love the name, love the design.
Okay, cool -- here's hoping the thing grows on me. ![]()
Just as silly a name as a "Death" "Star"./quote]Or death squadron...
But the star destroyers names from the OT are pretty good and cool, like devastator and executor. I think we were all just a little disapointed cause we wanted something classic and cool.
This is the thing though... Executor is a legal term for some designated to carry out a will. Which is just as odd as Finalizer.
For a power to stay in power they have to be providing the people something.
To me this is what made TIE fighter such a good game: Nothing you did was outright evil. The worst you ever did was go Pax Imperilious on the Riplbus and the Dimok which you did to end their civil war and rebuild their worlds. They were in objectively a better place than when the campaign started.

But to quote bender: "Its the X that makes it sound cool".
They kept the philosophy, which is nice, but something was lost in translation.

It certainly did.
It carries out the will of Vader? This is the thing though... Executor is a legal term for some designated to carry out a will. Which is just as odd as Finalizer.
And the "Finalizer" will finish what Vader started ;D
Also, since there are a lot of opinions flying around here about how bad it is. I'll just go ahead and throw my lot in DWRR. I think both the name and design are fine. It's an Imperial ship in a brand spanking new Star Wars movie! I was bound to love it regardless.
It's like the Avalanche of the Imperials.
Avalanche = Silverado on top of a Suburban.

"I don't like sand. It's coarse and irritating and it gets everywhere. Everything here is soft and smooth."Also seeing how no one else has posted it you can find said preview here.
Wow that's uh... that's not very well written.
Disappointing.
its almost as bad... which i thought couldnt happen
'Finalizer' ? Doesn't sound deathy enough!
I quite like the nam Finalizer.
I also don't have a problem with the line about sand. He was an angsty teen, it fit.
Now that I know what the name means, it's suddenly much more sinister. Ask is we don't know if that thing is the size of of an Imperial classic or something closer to an Executor dreadnought.
This is the thing though... Executor is a legal term for some designated to carry out a will. Which is just as odd as Finalizer.
That is one specific application of the word, yes, but Executor does not only mean someone designated to carry out a will.
An Executor is someone designated to EXECUTE a particular action, to carry out a particular task, whatever that task may be.
Technically, an "executioner" is the "executor" of an "execution".
Aren't words fun?
Edited by TvayumatDon't get me wrong, I love the look of this new star destroyer. The name just isn't as cool as the look for me though, that's all.

Well if I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times but...
The new SD sounds like it wants to do my taxes.
Doesn't quite fit in the same vein as Dominator, Warlord, Aggressor, Arc Hammer, etc.

Maybe the new SD is a superweapon in itself ? Ending the Alliance in one single, swift stroke.
They should have called it the 'tenderizer'

Well, at least many bothans died to bring them this information! They will have to sacrifice a lot more to find out the new SD layout makes little sense, at least in what I would consider scifi pseudologic. And to be fair, the weakness of our second death star was not a tad different from our first one, except that the first one had an intact hull and stuff..
Design-wise I think it is more than a bit uninspirational to place one SD on top of a slightly bigger SD.. boy, if they ever come up with a new advanced death star I seriously hope they refrain from merging to spheres together ..
If it had to be a triangle-thingy, why not going with tetrahedrons, or merging SDs with 45 or 90° offset along the axis?
