Die hard rebel players?

By SirEmilCrane, in X-Wing

So I think its fair to say that the majority of X Wing players own and play with ships from all three factions. I have all three factions and have played games with them all, even if I slightly favor rebels. However I have noticed that there are small communities of single faction players out there. (And there is nothing wrong with this, in most other wargames its the norm)

Largest and most vocal are the Imeprial players, guys who only or mostly only fly TIEs. Also known for: telling you why TIE fighter was the best star wars game ever, taking the whole Rebels are terrorists thing a little too far, complaining about the Defender needing a buff and owning a bunch of unassembled A Wings and Star Vipers. Jokes aside these guys are usually great opponents and I tremendously respect the opinions of some of these guys on the forums.

Second are the Scum players. A more recent trend, several guys in my area are strictly scum only and I have seen some on these forums. I don't really understand the appeal of Scum that much but whatever fuels your hyperdrive. Its Boba Fett isn't it? Its always Boba Fett.

So my questions is, are there rebel only players out there? Seems like I never really see overtly Rebel fans on the boards or in my local group, its either scum player, Imp player or all 3 player. Anyone out there who would consider themselves "rebels only" or know anyone that does?

I'm rebel only. I got into the game with my gf, who remains my only opponent. We adopted factions, and that's all we play. Neither of us were interested in picking up a third faction, although we do occaisionally proxy scum cards for the HWK, Y-wing, z95, and slave-1 and allow the Rebels to draft from the first three and the Imperials to draft the scum slave-1 pilots. (We do not allow illicit upgrades, and replace the scum astromechs with rebel astromechs)

I've only ever taken rebels to tournaments. They're durable. It gives time for your plans to work out. Imperial ships are more nimble, but their vulnerability to green dice failure makes them rely on reaction very slightly more than their rebel and scum counterparts. I don't care for that at tournaments where I hope to do well.

They're out there. It's such a cost investment to play multiple factions. When my buddy and I started he bought Rebel ships and I bought Imps so we didn't have to both spend cash on the same stuff. Naturally, we began playing those factions out of familiarity. I imagine it's the same for others. Buy up one faction then get stuck in it because of the cost of buying enough ships to fill 100 points well enough.

At my local game store, there is 1 Imperial player (me lol), 1 Scum and Villainy player, and 4 Rebel players. I really only chose Imperial because nobody else was doing it. Strangely enough, the scum player never uses Boba Fett, as he really, really, really likes bombs and Eamon Azzameen.

I've also noticed the same (plenty of dedicated Imperials, a few dedicated Scum and almost no dedicated Rebels).

As for the appeal of scum (coming from a mostly-scum player, but I also enjoy both rebel and imps) I like the feel of guys on the fringes who have appeared as both heroes and villains, as well as bounty hunters.

I used to be Rebel only but when Scum appeared I diversified so now I have a Rebel force and a scum force.

If they ever release any of my favorite Imperial fighters like the I-7 Howlrunner, TIE Hunter, or the TIE Opressor I might make an Imp squad some day.

For Armada I'm currently pure Rebel as well but will probably make a scum fleet if such a faction is released and if there are any interesting Imperial ships in wave 3 I might make an mp fleet. I'm not very interested in Star Destroyers but the Raider looks fun.

not really rebel only, but I haven't played anything apart from 5 A-wings for a long **** while :D

next step: motherloving K-wing!!!! (but also punisher, so eh)

Rebs are great though, not nearly as green dice prone <_<

I mainly play Rebel's, and consider them my main faction, but I do have a nice sizeable collection of imperial ships, and 1 starviper. I mainly bought the empire/scum for the upgrades though(that and the best way to know your opponent is to play your opponent. And Fett. Always Fett(imp Fett for now though)).

There are a good number of Rebel-only or Rebel-mostly players out there. But I also have noticed Imperial fanaticism far more than anything else (Rebels as terrorists is totally a thing). Now that I think of it, I haven't seen fanaticism about Rebels or Scum (although Scum are still relatively new, and Boba Fett is his own niche).

(And while I'm largely faction-neutral, TIE Fighter was in fact the best game ever)

'nuff said

I started out as an Imperial only player, while my partner went with Scum (Boba of course). However recently i succumbed to the Rebels and now have both factions while my missus is quite happy with Scum especially with the Hounds Tooth dropping soon.

I fly rebels only, the glorious Y-wing is best Wing

I fly them all. Mostly I prefer Scum though. I just love the bounty hunters, and have been waiting impatiently for Bossk and Dengar. I love the Hound's Tooth, and Wave 8 has me pretty stoked between two bounty hunter ships and the ships from the Rebels cartoon. Boba Fett is my favorite Star Wars character of course (glad I can fly him for two factions), but I like all the bounty hunters, and Black Sun. Prince Xizor is a boss. :)

I courted both Rebels and Imperials, until I got an A-Wing, which gave me the same kick I got from flying Imperials. Now I'm waiting for my fourth A-Wing. I love those cheeky little fellas.

I think I will be once Wave 8 comes out!! Dat Ghost tho!!! ;)

Interesting question.

I love the Rebel ships (X-Wings, Y-Wings .. not Ghost) from the Original Trilogy. I have a handful of each small base OT ship and 1 of each OT large base ship. Therefore, all of my games (I bought all the gear to play with my friends) are Reb vs Imp.

I love the Rebels and play with them as much as possible. I don't care that X-Wings are seemed overpriced. I just love the look of them. My Mrs and mates often go Empire which makes life easy. I've had plenty of enjoyable games playing Imps .. but always go back to those roguish Rebs.

I own all three factions, but play only Empire.

Because yes, they have cookies.

And I love cookies. :D

I started Imp only. With the emergence of the Scum, I'm Scum and Imp only now. The only time I run Rebels is during scenario based play.

They're awesome as scenario. Floating chunks of useless ships.

I think this may be it. The Imperial fans are just the most vocal about it. I personally would consider myself a rebel player, even though I do play Imps as well, and scum very occasionally

Also personally I think KOTOR is the best star wars game, but I'm too young for TIE fighter really

Same here. I have a small collection of Imperials, middling collection of Scum and HUGE collection of Rebels, and I've only ever really fielded Rebels at tournaments. The most success I've had was with a 4X squadron - Biggs, Wedge and two Rookies, right after Wave 4 was released.

I was a pure rebel player until scum came out, now I like to say I play Scum and (Rebel) Scum.

I have all the imperial ships, but that is more so I have the upgrades (but thank god predator comes with the Khrixasxssjaa....the Gesundheit) and so I can supply ships for other players interested in getting into the game. I have tooled around with making Imperial lists, but I have never actually played an Imperial list.

I'm the only imp player my so called friends play Isis and mafia factions.

I own everything out up to this point which includes wave 7 and raider... that being said I only run rebels at tourneys and 99% rebels for fun as well..... what I am saying is down with the empire!!!
