Timing rules for playing cards?

By Mattr0polis, in Talisman Rules Questions

Hello,

Quick question that came up last night: Is there timing rules of who gets actions at what times for this game?

What happened was 2 players were about to fight each other, and both had a 'if you are just about to enter combat' spell they wanted to play at the same time. They were both at like 1 life each, so this could have had a really big affect on the game just by who gets to play their spell first.

Like a lot of card games have timing rules to cover this, but I couldn't find any in the rule book. Would the person who just moved to that space and initiated combat get the first action? Or is his 'action' to start combat which then the defending player gets the very next action which he uses to cast his spell first?

We couldn't decide so we just did a die roll off to determine who's went off first.

Is there any real timing rules for these kind of situations though?

I would probably go with the active player (the one whose turn it currently is), having the first option to cast a Spell/use an Object (Wand of Dragonfire).

Sounds reasonable. I'll go with that until I see otherwise.

Thanks.

yeah the person moving had dibs on casting first. if he does not cast a spell at start of turn then another player can cast a spell at that point,

Sounds good. I'm assuming this means whenever there is a timing conflict between players, the first action always goes to the player who's turn it is?

Also, what happens when a player has multiple actions to take at once in conflict with someone else, for example:

Character A has two 'if you are just about to enter combat' spells & moves to a space with Character B who has one of those spells. Does Character A get to cast BOTH of his before Character B gets an action? Or do you alternate so that Character A gets to cast one, then Character B casts one, then Character A can cast his other one?

Thanks.

I think you might have to RPS that one lengua.gif . Hasn't happened so far (60+ games), but I'd alternate ABA (since B can't even cast more than 1 Spell when it's A's turn) if this were to happen.

Haha yeah. I dunno if it will ever happen, though it is possible. I'm more just trying to understand the timing of things & how certain actions/phases stack (like this 'just before battle' phase, etc) for this game in general. happy.gif

Thanks for some answers though, Dam & Msrushing!

You can also play who is the quickest player in using a spell, that one can use the spell first gui%C3%B1o.gif
