Ever since I got my second core set, I've been playing 400 point games, knowing that that would be the eventual standard. A friend and I would loan each other enough stuff to complete a 400 point list from very early on. Lately someone wanted to play 300 points and I was shocked - only then to realize that 300 is actually the current standard. It got me thinking about the temporary nature of a 300 point limit and asking myself why I'd want to grow accustomed to playing that way at all.
I will always prefer 400 points as the match limit for my games, since I prefer to play in a format that will resemble tournament conditions (Even if the setting is casual). But 400 points still doesn't actually feel like an Armada to me. I'm thinking a 1000-point game is where it's at! I haven't done it yet but I think it's totally do-able, considering that even in a 400 point game we end up only using a tiny fraction of the game board by turn 4.
