Your favorite amount of points for a match?

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada

Ever since I got my second core set, I've been playing 400 point games, knowing that that would be the eventual standard. A friend and I would loan each other enough stuff to complete a 400 point list from very early on. Lately someone wanted to play 300 points and I was shocked - only then to realize that 300 is actually the current standard. It got me thinking about the temporary nature of a 300 point limit and asking myself why I'd want to grow accustomed to playing that way at all.

I will always prefer 400 points as the match limit for my games, since I prefer to play in a format that will resemble tournament conditions (Even if the setting is casual). But 400 points still doesn't actually feel like an Armada to me. I'm thinking a 1000-point game is where it's at! I haven't done it yet but I think it's totally do-able, considering that even in a 400 point game we end up only using a tiny fraction of the game board by turn 4.

i think 400 is going to be a little better, but more prone to one turn-shots. Where something goes down before it even gets to fire.

ive played 1000 point games a few times. they are alot of fun but take a long time to play out.

however once wave 2 comes out our games may jump to 2K points. its always nice to see all of your ships on the field :)

Wow I am surprised you did not fight 20 Cr-90s

Impressive, most impressive.

How'd that game turn out, were the rebels able to flank, or did the wall of destroyers obliterate them?

...

But on the main topic, played primarily 300 because it's the current tourney level. But with the few 400s I've played those have been incredibly fun. Definately intend to do an Endor sized battle once wave 2 hits.

Once Wave 2 hits, I'll be breaking out my 4' x 8' game map for an Endor battle as well. I think a bit wider map for "Epic" (1000 pt mega battle) is in order too. 3 x 6 is long enough perhaps, but 4 x 8 enables elbow room, even tho later the battle will probably center around a small area, Imo, this also creates moments for multiple waves, hit and run tactics, several battles going on at the same time,( team play),etc...what do you chaps think?

I really enjoy 400. Much less limited without being able to bring the kitchen sink.

I like 400 points as a tournament standard, but I just enjoy playing the game. Probably more relevant is the time it may take to play a 600+ point game, because if the time I have available to play doesn't cover that, it won't be as much fun as it could be.
