I will always use squadrons

Yeah. You heard me.

I will always use squadrons, because A Wings and TIE fighters and Luke and Interceptors are COOL and they are Star Wars and the game would be a thousand times less interesting to me without them.

Now I don't plan on ever playing competitively, but as far as playing this game, I will always take most of the ships that make Star Wars cool.

So take THAT, stupid Gladiator!

Only the Sith deal in absolutes!!!

;)

There will always be a difference in playing competitively an playing for fun. Goes for sports, games, etc.

A national level tournament will pull this who are playing to win as brutally and efficiently as possible. Squadrons "may not" be efficient enough at this point, but just looking at the limited wave 2 preview the scum (rogue) squadrons and what looks to be a command range upgrade will throw a wrench in the works.

In the end play with what you want and against whom you want.

In our first local tournament there were no Squadron-free builds, though there were very Squadron lite builds. We have only about 7 players in our growing community so far. In casual games I certainly plan to include squadrons in my builds because it just doesn't feel like Star Wars without them. For our next tournament (in September) I am not sure. Since I am the organizer I, hopefully, won't be playing (as long as we have at least 6 participants). I still keep up my hope that Wave 2's unknowns will bring the competitiveness factor of Squadrons back up.

wunderbar!

While I won't always use squadrons, I will use them more often than not. I love seeing xwings and ties on the table and it absolutely ups the cool looking factor for me. I don't think they are the best choice, but it's a lot of fun!

At this point, I don't expect to playing in tournaments, if there are ever any held in my area unless it helps to build the community (ie not enough players, getting enough in tourney encourages more players to get into armada).

Having also started painting my squadrons, I would also like to field them, at least in a casual setting. But I did start by painting my A-wings, if you know what I mean...

awesome coloring!......Gott Skadi is proud....and He would state it!

Those squadrons are beautiful.

Ashram be like "I will always use my super beautiful squadrons in my giant super-awesome man-cave where the greek gods used to game until I usurped it"

That's great bro.

I'm not at all jelly.

I'm hearing what ya saying Ashram, and I'm taking up the banner...for the same and different reasons.

I have a casual play list with squadrons, bit I've been using an all ship list very successfully at the last several tournaments, so that's what I'll stick with competitively for now - especially with Worlds on the horizon.

Absolutely, I'd feel dirty not fielding any squadrons....

Having said that, there is a whole another wave on its way. Not only will this have the Rogues and Villians themselves, it will have an explosion of new upgrades, by the looks of it, more than wave I had. I'm sure a few of them will be squadron focused, some even potentially conferring "Grit" or "Intel" on your standard squadrons.

Not only that, FFG haven't spoiled anything serious on Wave 2 yet. They didn't even show the ship cards.

Bottom line - there is a long way to go yet!

I can't say I'll always use squadrons, because I've already used a full ship-ish fleet. But again, that may be because I like scenarios and that's what that was. That, and I don't mind the idea of toying with a 'convoy' scenario with light ships and warships trying to escape from an ambush. Or trying to survive a bomber strike intact on a command ship and using more debris and positioning to get away from them and to a set 'hyperspace jump' point. Sounds like fun for a one-off thing.

But for all intents and purposes, it's basically not Star Wars to me without bitty fighter squadrons on one side at least. That and I'm pretty bloody happy with my fancied up squadrons so I take them every chance I get.

What do you mean command range upgrade?

It is sort of a rock paper scisors. No Fighters might beat light on fighters, but they get creamed by heavy on fighters. If you are giong up against faster ships you need to use the squadron command.

I will use squadrons when playing casual pick up games, for the exact reasons the OP posts. Now tournaments, they stay in the hangar at least until wave two...
