Point size vs. play area

By Ghost Dancer, in Star Wars: Armada

I've started playing 400 point matches (much better than 300 IMO), and when Wave 2 hits, thinking of going to 500.

I'm just wondering with larger games, at what point does the play area need to be bigger? Anyone have any experience of this?

Nope, you want it to be 6x3 still because then there is less wasted time trying to circle around for another pass.

I can see the table getting very crowded at 600 points or more, and I think you really need to look at stepping up to a 6x4 or 8x6 even after about 700 points. But it's hard to say since the most I've played is 400 points!

Yeah, I was thinking that around 600/700 might be the tipping point.

If your playing 500+ and it's getting crowded work up incrementally, 6x4 is the next logical step as it is one of the most common wargame board size.

I would like to play a 400-point game but I may be the only local player who has enough forces to make a viable 400-point force. Until the 2nd Wave is released, and the local gamers expand their forces, I probably won't be able to do a 400-point game unless I lend some forces to whoever I am playing.

I don't understad this at all. My 400 point games seem to take place in a 2' x 2' area. Like every ship ends up converging in the same area.

This is pretty much what all battles look like by turn 4 or 5. Everyone grouped up trying to shoot each other. No way a mere 200 additional points would cause us to run out of play area.
