Painting question

By Chrysis84, in X-Wing

I need some help with washes. I have a couple ships that are darker colors(black, dark grey, dark blue and purple). I need to know what color washes work best on darker colors.

Thank you in advance. When they are finished i will post pics.

Use a black wash for cool colors like grey, blue, black, purple, and green. Use a brown wash for warm tones, like red, yellow, browns.

If using overall washes start with a lighter base color. The washes will darken the base color considerably. If using pin washes I prefer to use a very dark base color rather than straight black. Straight black looks too stark.

If your base colors are very dark consider using lighter pin washes to highlight panel lines.

Because the ships are so small start with a base coat lighter than what you want as a finish color. You can use washes to darken the overall color and glazes to tint panels to change the hue.

Just in case you didn't know a pin wash is applied using a very fine brush to highlight panel lines or raised detail.

I hope this helps. Painting stuff this small is a real pain. Especially with all the nice detail that's present.
