"Green Arrow" list
...
Oh and I have been considering making an article on the finger four formation demonstrating all of the major transformations you can put it through. I've found over time that is is EXTREMELY flexible and let's you react to any changes in the situation rapidly. It would be a fair amount of work on vassal to do this with pictures, if there is demand I'll do it though. So would anyone be interested in such a post?

Me too ... I have a small torunament coming up in March and am still undecided on the list I'll take...
Hey dude just wanted to start by saying that I am a huge fan of A wings and love to see them flown in tournaments and the like. As far as formations, if you are interested look up Hub Zemke. He was in charge of the 56th fighter group during WWII and came up with a lot of the maneuvers and formations that fighter pilots use to this way as well as escort formations. There are a lot of very interesting maneuvers and theories that translate surprisingly well to the faster x wing ships. The mission, even if you loose because of the die make your opponent feel as if you are 2 steps ahead of them.
*side note, if you can learn to break formation and get back into it you can decimate your opponents because most people are unable to do so. This works especially well against enemy arc dodgers who still suffer from stress and do not have the luxury of flying in a formation.
its nice to see a fellow A wing pilot though
Yeah, I don't see A wings too often in 'top ranking' squads. I'm happy to see people (other than me) actually using them. Using Tycho + Squad Leader with unnamed pilots could be cool.
Finally discovered this thread and some great ideas. My love of a-wings is pretty much unconditional although never likely to get a quick game. I've got store champs tomorrow and looking at running the below list (apologies for the presence of a rogue e-wing). Any thoughts?
Horn A (98)
Corran Horn (48) - E-Wing
Push The Limit (3), R2-D2 (4), Fire Control System (2), Engine Upgrade (4)
Jake Farrell (28) - A-Wing
Push The Limit (3), Chardaan Refit (-2), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Autothrusters (2), Veteran Instincts (1)
Green Squadron Pilot (22) - A-Wing
Push The Limit (3), Chardaan Refit (-2), Autothrusters (2)

My thought is that the PS bid isn't worth it on Jake or the squad. With the meta as it is at the moment you'll lose the PS Bid 50% of the time and so you shouldn't depend on it, you do after all had just one PS 9 and it's common to see 2 ps 9 2 ps 10 builds now. Also push on Corran is much better with advanced sensors, better synergy. You end up only decreasing your offense by 0.6 hits a round by not taking FCS.
Here's my recommendation:
(100)
Jake Farrell (28) - A-Wing
Push The Limit (3), Chardaan Refit (-2), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Autothrusters (2), Wired (1)
Green Squadron Pilot (23) - A-Wing
Push The Limit (3), Chardaan Refit (-2), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Autothrusters (2), Wired (1)
Corran Horn (49) - E-Wing
Push The Limit (3), R2-D2 (4), Advanced Sensors (3), Engine Upgrade (4)
Wired is great for the A's, it's effectively predator and works to counter the stress meta if you face it. Alternatively swap engine for hull on horn and take juke on Jake.
The meta seems a bit strange at the moment where I am. Not many high PS ships and 98 points normally gets the job done
for initiative. I'll see how it goes and maybe change for next tournament. I've been reluctant to use advanced sensors as like the post manoeuvre movement but I get that it's not so beneficial with other ships moving after. Will try to give a rundown on how it goes. Just waiting to get another a-wing so can unleash quad a's!
Man it is a pain to catch up on this thread. So much information it's like drinking from a firehose. I'm curious if anyone in this "A-Wing Club" ever played the old wings of victory game. As I understand it that game was very similar to how X-Wing plays out but I've never had a chance to play it myself. I own four A-Wings myself and will definitely be giving a few lists a try.
Trying hard to get on the A-s list and make them effective. I've been having a lot of luck running Gemmer solo as a flanker with some hard hitters coming up the middle. On the flip side, my opponents have had red hot dice. By the time they figure out he's a threat and they focus fire on him he goes away in one salvo! (had a range 1 Soontir hit him with 3 hit and a crit (hull damage) and no evades. then next match a B wing did a hit and three crits at range one with no evades... it was nasty)
So I'm going to try out two lists tonight and hopefully get in 4 games. I'm trying to mix in with the E-wing because I feel I'm becoming a pretty decent pilot with that ship. It feels like a harder hitting A wing that is way over-costed.
100pt AAE
Gemmer - Chardaan / Stealth / Pilot / PTL
Jake - Wired / Chardaan / Autothrusters / Pilot / PTL
Ethan - PTL / Adv. Sensors / R2D2 / Engine
99pt Gemmer leads Green Sq
Green Sq - PTL / Refit / Hull / Pilot / Expert Handling
Green Sq - PTL / Refit / Hull / Pilot / Wired
Green Sq - PTL / Refit / Hull / Pilot / Wired
Gemmer - PTL / Refit / Stealth / Pilot
100pt Training Flight
Gemmer - PTL / Refit / Stealth / Pilot
Tycho - PTL / Expert Handling / Pilot / Refit / Autothrusters
Jake - PTL / Wired / Pilot / Refit / Autothrusters
Prototype - Refit
I was also thinking of a Jake or Gemmer leading 4 Green squadies. but the green squadies would all be naked for upgrades... which at that point why not just fly 6 naked greenies?
Is 6 naked greens in two squads of 3 or all flying together viable? Without a synergy pilot like the Tie's have would it actually be able to survive? Would that be something like a Shara Bey could be introduced as? (pilot skill 8, choose one A-wing in range 1 add +2 to their pilot skill to a max of 8. point cost 25)
on that note, if they introduced Shara Bey how would you like her built? Giving fellow A-Wings a boost would be my preference but she was more of a lone wolf in the comics and a very skilled pilot, arguably as good as Tycho. The ties have a ton of pilots that give swarms that extra edge (ie Howlrunner).
my ideas (based on a pilot skill of 8):
-When defending and you do not have arc on the attacker add +1 evade
- When an A-Wing within range 2 is defending and does not have arc on the attacker add +1 evade to the defending A-Wing. (I'm sure someone can word that better
- At the start of Activation phase, choose 1 A-Wing at range 1, that A-wing adds +2 to their pilot skill to a max of 8 until the end phase.
- When a friendly ship is attacking and within range 2, the defender immediately cancels all focus results
on another note... looks like I need to buy 3 more Z95's and another Star Viper to get more variety out of my A's
Edited by WiredinThis is great that there is a thread dedicated to the A Wing!
I just had a quick skim through the thread, great stuff guys!
I also just watched this video in which a 5 A Wing with Proton Rockets squad was used:
How do you think this would hold up against other lists?
That 5 prototype with prockets list looked like great fun and pretty good work to take out a firespray and a decimator. Long live the a-wing!
I had my store champs yesterday with Corran, Jake and GSP list yesterday. Was a pretty tough day with plenty of Miranda k-wings floating around making a mess of Corran. He was also one shotted by Soontir (3 hits and crit which was inevitably a direct hit!). However, got my own back when my GSP one shotted Soontir in the same game, great fun.
Looking at a 4 a-wing list which option looks better (I only have 2 outmanoeuvre cards and 2 AT's)
Option 1
4 x GSP with PTL and Prockets
Option 2
2 x GSP with PTL, Prockets, Outmanoeuvre and AT's
2 x GSP with PTL
Option 3
2 x GSP with PTL, Outmanoeuvre and AT's
2 x GSP with PTL and Prockets
I'm currently favouring list 3 with the 2 Procket A-wings getting in close and firing off fairly early and then the other 2 can hang around a little longer with the AT's and take advantage of outmanoeuvre where possible. Option 1 cold be absolute chaos though. I prefer it to the 5 prototypes with prockets as more likely to be able to TL and focus to get the max effect from them
I don't know If I should mention this but for maybe some of the less experienced A-wingers... Make sure you take your target lock... It allows you to reroll your dice and it's free...and it's already built into your ship. It beats adding any of those cards which let you reroll or turn a focus die... ie. Wired, Marksmanship, Preditor, Calculation... Target Lock is free, you just need to remember to take that Target lock when the opportunity arises, (try to make a habit of it).... When facing off with Soontir... and you roll two blanks... second chance rolls can be critical... if you're in range one you may even take him out in one shot if he has a bad roll. This may also give you an opportunity to keep your focus for your evade dice instead of spending it on your attack roll.

Unfortunately I only have one wired card, but the advantage to me seems to be that you can use a focus on offense then still have a focus like ability for defense, also being able to boost/evade or focus/evade every turn and not necessarily having to use that focus for offense helps make for a tough A-Wing
I have been reading and watching a lot of material on X-Wing tactics maneuvering, synergy, maximizing dice, etc..
but I have not found any information about getting back into formation once it has been broken...
Is this possible? If so, are there any resources, links, etc.. that any of you know about that you can share?
I don't think its possible to get back into formation once it's broken... the maneuver templates aren't designed to be precision tools sometimes it's just an achievement to maintain a good formation... once it's broken it's not likely possible to regain it. If you were one or two moves out of sequence you may have a chance... but if you've split up multiple moves it gets harder and harder.
Edited by Dej2After spending the day reading through this thread it appears I've caught the A-Wing bug. Seriously tempted to run a triple A-Wing list at an upcoming store championship.
Jake - PTL, VI, Proton Rockets, Autothrusters & Title - 33
Tycho - PTL, Wired, Proton Rockets, Autothrusters & Title - 35
Green Sqd Pilot - PTL, Crackshot, Homing Missile, Autothrusters & Title - 30

Why the hell did the firespray player just joust that? I don't mean to be condescending, it's just funny to me.
I have no clue how it would do. Engine Upgrade large bases would give this a problem. Depends which aces you played against, as a Miranda or Poe would be reasonable predictable, but a Soontir or Engine Upgrade Vader would be hard to get in arc at range 1. I'd love to give it a go with my Boba Vader Squad, eat 2 Proton Bombs haha. Oh look,
However, Guidance Chips would be a significant buff to it. Prockets with only a focus to modify can fail sometimes, not with chips though. You roll something 'meh' like hit focus focus blank blank with a procket and chips brings it up to a respectable 4 hits. So many times with Prockets on Vader I'll get 4 hits and spend my TL to try for 5 and it'll fail. With chips it's just 5.
I guess that as usual, with this list "it depends" how well it will hold up against others.
As you have pointed out, how your opponent flies will make a big difference. In this battle it seems as though the Imperials flew right where the Rebels needed them to.
The guidance chips sound as though they will decrease the chances of misses (0 points is also not bad)... But can A Wings take that upgrade?
I still like the simplicity of this PRocket list.
It is definitely not the ultimate A Wing list, but it is absolutely one that I will be keeping in my playbook
This thread make me want to buy some A-wings
This thread make me want to buy some A-wings
DO IT!!!
Haven't read through the whole thread, so excuse me in advance if this has already been discussed.
But with Juke out there, I've got a severe itch to fly four of these:
GSP - Title, Juke, PTL, Refit, and either autothrusters or hull upgrade.
I honestly can't decide if I like AT or hull upgrade best, and can't find a use for the leftover four points if I go with thrusters.
Thoughts?

It has been discussed but it's the most common question I get now. So to recap:
1. Hull > Autothrusters for all A-wings EXCEPT Jake Farrel. Why?
• Not having barrel roll and having very wide turns makes it hard to stay out of arc vs skilled opponents. Jake has Barrel Roll and so can fly like an Interceptor.
• You're too fast to stay at range 3. Barring VERY weird situations your opponent will fly slower then you and you'll end up at range 2.
• You will (virtually) never be able to keep all 4 A-wings positioned such that Autothrusters will trigger. Your opponent will just shoot whichever one won't benefit from it on any particular round.
• You have firepower 2, stay at range 3 and you will never kill anything ever.
As for the PTL+Juke combo it is easier to fly then the Green Arrow List. Flying both lists to their full potential the trade off is as follows:
Juke: You're Shots will land more reliably and do more damage.
Wingman: You will have twice as many shots.
The incredible boost to your maneuver dial will allow you to keep your opponent in arc much more successfully with wingman, so it's up to you to choose what path to take. I choose more shots personally, but it's a lot harder to fly it well.
After spending the day reading through this thread it appears I've caught the A-Wing bug. Seriously tempted to run a triple A-Wing list at an upcoming store championship.

What is the consensus on running Jake and Tycho together? Is it an either or thing or do they play well together (both being big points sinks)?
I ran Jake the other night and really loved his pilot ability.
Love this thread. It has inspired me to play A's at my SC this Sunday. I am relatively new to flying them and only own three at the moment. I have to choose between these two lists:
First List
Tycho Celchu
Expert Handling
PTL
Proton Rockets
Autothrusters
Jake Farrell
Wired
PTL
Proton Rockets
Autothrusters
Gemmer Sojan
PTL
Proton Rockets
Stealth Device
Second List
Tycho Celchu
Expert Handling
PTL
Proton Rockets
Shield Upgrade
Jake Farrell
Wired
PTL
Proton Rockets
Shield Upgrade
Gemmer Sojan
PTL
Refit
Stealth Device
Which would you choose? Or do you have something better in mind?
I personally prefer Autothrusters over shield upgrade. But both lists are pretty comparable. Those are my three favorite A-wing pilots. Good luck, fly casual.

I think this list is very interesting and fun to play. I played against it and lost
But was so much fun
Also it's nice that people come up with such list, that are unpredictable and non standard.
Great list design.
PS. Made me want to run the list to
