TIE Defender and TIE Advanced

By LagJanson, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Ok, I wanted to try something different. Actually, to be truthful, I wanted to fly A-wings but couldn't come up with a third wingman I liked so decided to try the TIEs. As I now have the Raider it's opened up some new options. The Advanced Targeting Computer offers some nice symmetry with Vessery - as to add the crit to the roll you can't spend the target lock, which means it's still there for Vessery to pick up and use.

Thoughts? I'm hoping to give it a fly in the near future, or something similar.

I, as well, am looking for a TIE Advanced with a TIE Defender. Here is what I've come up with for that pair. I like your idea but I think it's 3 "glass canons" similar to the 3 Imp Aces. That's why I added the Doom shuttle to add a little synergy with the Mangler and ATC.

Colonel Vessery — TIE Defender 35
Veteran Instincts 1
"Mangler" Cannon 4
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II 1
Ship Total: 41
Juno Eclipse — TIE Advanced 28
Push the Limit 3
Advanced Targeting Computer 1
Stealth Device 3
TIE/x1 0
Ship Total: 35
Omicron Group Pilot — Lambda-Class Shuttle 21
Darth Vader 3
Ship Total: 24

Admit it, you only created this thread to brag.

Juno Eclipse — TIE Advanced 28

Predator 3

Advanced Targeting Computer 1

Stealth Device 3

TIE/x1 0

Ship Total: 35

Colonel Vessery — TIE Defender 35

Veteran Instincts 1

Heavy Laser Cannon 7

Engine Upgrade 4

"Dark Curse" — TIE Fighter 16

I'd probably look at switching the Engine Upgrade off of Vessery to be able to take the TIE Mk II modification. That frees up 3 points. Then I'd drop the Stealth Device off of Juno to save another 3 points. That leaves you with 6 points to turn Backstabber into another TIE Advanced.

"Mangler" Cannon 4
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II 1

Juno Eclipse — TIE Advanced 28

Omicron Group Pilot — Lambda-Class Shuttle 21
Darth Vader 3

If you are going to put PTL on Juno you should consider TIE Mk. II instead of Stealth Device to give the maximum flexibility in her dial. Without MkII you will need to select one bank on your dial if you want to ditch stress (and don't want to go straight). This limits you to only being able to speed up to a 2 bank. With the Mk II you can choose the 2 bank and either speed it up to 3 or slow it down to 1 and still clear your stress.

I'd probably swap PTL for Predator and then take the points being spent on Stealth Device to give Vessery proper HLC.

Wasn't so much bragging as perhaps over-excited. Will try to tone it down.

Wish I had the TIE Mk II but did not walk away with all the toys. I'll try dumping the stealth device and engine upgrade and improving the third fighter. Thank you.

Edit: Second thoughts - better not to post

I was thinking on similar list Adv+Def and came up with:

Vader /w TieX1, Adv. Targeting

Vessery /w HLC, Pred,Tie Mk2

Saber Squadron /w PTL

Another version, with fatter vader but i had to cut PTL on interceptor

Vader /w TieX1, Adv. Targeting, Determination, EU

Vessery /w HLC, Pred,Tie Mk2

Alpha Squadron

Wasn't so much bragging as perhaps over-excited. Will try to tone it down.

I'm just playing with you. Enjoy your Raider and get those Advanceds on some tables.

Thanks for the clarification. I certainly didn't mean to come off in any negative way.

I've got three points to spare at this point - I dropped the VI from Vessery as without the engine upgrade the piloting skill difference doesn't seem as important. I may try to get a TIE Punisher in the future and slide in the TIE Mk ii upgrades but that's looking long term. On the fun table I'll give'em a try anyway and see how it works.

I went with Colzet with FCS for another source of targetting computer locks for Vessery, but at the same time fully expect that Colzet will use the target lock more frequently.
