I was watching the FFG in flight discussion from Gencon 2015.
It left me wondering if FFG is planning on creating a campaign option for X Wing similar to what Imperial Assault does.
Anyone else get that impression?

It sure wouldn't hurt
I'd play it
I never did do any if the missions that comes with the core set or large/huge ships
Always wanted to try But we can never seem to decide.
Be nice to play something else rather than the 100 pt blow em up till their gone game
Although this game is pretty finely tuned to tournament play, I think a big mission book or Pdf consolidating all the expansion missions and campaigns into a single book, maybe with a bag and special mission token punch sheet with it would be ace
I think a campaign booklet, including a range of upgrade cards and one or two of the models used in the campaign would be really really cool.

Sure would
Absolutely, I'd buy it.
FFG, are you listening? Take my money!
Doesn't a campaign come with the raider?

There's actually campaigns included with all the epic ships. I think having all those missions condensed into one place would be great; I'm a big mark for the narrative aspect that doesn't get discussed that much it seems like
Yeah, there's campaigns with all the epic ships.
Secretly, what I want is a way to play games without needing an epic board/ship that also breaks away from the 100/6 deathmatch style of game. There's a couple of different campaign rules floating around on the net, but I'd really like something official from FFG to help the community move away from the tournament style games and into something a bit more Star Wars-ish.
As an aside, I think it would be a great opportunity to add little upgrades and titles to existing ships without the need for a whole aces pack.
EDIT:
Basically, the Raider without the Raider. A cool campaign spread over half a dozen games or more, a TIE Advance, the X1 title card, some new pilots and upgrades, etc.
Edited by ChucknuckleMe and a friend played the first 4 missions from the sets last week. We'll play more next week. They were fun, more fun than I was expecting.

Play my campaign then: A tale of two families
Edited by John TenzerI'd like to see a freestyle campaign system that didn't revolve around set missions. I've been contemplating several ideas but nothing has really grabbed me so far other that steering away from rigid Mission 1, Mission 2, Mission 3 style campaign games. They just don't inspire me at all. Every other wargame I've played has had some form of freestyle campaign system that has had players grow their forces before committing them to battle.
A good campaign system seems to be the only thing missing from X-wing at this stage. Come on FFG, bring it on!

That's what I'd like too, but a system like that is a lot harder when all the characters are unique, established names.
Yeah, that would add a level of complexity to it, but I don't think it would be too hard to do.
Other things to ponder:
Would destroyed ships mean those pilots are lost forever, or would there be a possibility of ejecting and using that pilot again?
I think there would have to be some way for pilots to improve from basic pilots to skilled pilots with an ability or at least an EPT slot.
My initial idea was for a player to have one or two squadrons (12 ships each) on a roster to choose from. This would allow for a mix of ships and not restrict players to just one type of ship. Some of those might be named pilots, but most would be basic pilots, Black Sqn, Red Sqn, Saber Sqn, etc. Any replacements would be the absolute base pilot. Academy for TIE Fighters, Rookies for X-wings, etc.
Imperials would have 12 ships of the same type in a squadron, but have access to support from Lamdas, Firesprays and Decimators. The Rebels could mix up their squadrons to a degree, plus add YT-1300s, YT-2400s and HWKs. The Scum could work for either as a proper mercenary force, or as an independent faction bent on domination.
Squadrons would be deployed on a map and move from system to system gaining certain advantages from each system they hold during the course of the campaign. When two forces arrive at the same system, or a system that is garrisoned, a table top game takes place.
This is the standard campaign system I've seen used in multiple genre and it works quite well. You generally need a referee to adjudicate any hidden map movement, but it can work with everyone seeing the map and knowing who's where. As long as force strengths aren't known, you will still end up with "surprise" battles where you don't know what your opponent is showing up with until the battle.
Edited by ParravonI worked out a system here:
but homebrew rules really only take you so far. I really want to see the whole community start to move away from the standard tournament style games as the default way to play, and the best way to get that happening, or at least get some variety happening, is for FFG to put out some campaign expansions.
The multi thread narrative Campaign that comes with the CR-90 is actually really fun to play. The one that comes with the Transport is unfortunately not with a lot of fiddly unneeded extra rules - only one of the missions is any good.
Hopefully the Raider (and later Gozanti) Campaigns will be good.
But the idea of an official Campaign book with a longer ongoing campaign system or a couple of balanced, tested and varied campaigns could really lift the game IMHO.
I would like to see a book of missions for all sides, say at least 30-40 missions for each faction in one big book. Starting from simple to more complicated and epic. This would be a chance to use all the ships in the game and have a great time at it. Non competitive play.
Also they could include a recommended rule set in the book on campaign play as well similar to what they do in Imperial Assault.
