Epic Tournament Rules PDF appears to have been stealth updated

Hope this isn't old.

"X-Wing Epic Tournament Rules" is marked as having been last updated on Aug. 5 (today). The document itself says it's Version 3.1 and was updated July 21.

It appears the only change is adding that the Raider-class Corvette costs 3 Epic points. Nothing earth-shattering, but there's our official declaration on the Raider's Epic point cost.

Thanks good to know.

It wasn't a stealth update. They announced it on twitter. They added the changes so people could use these nice Raiders they got at GenCon =).

I'm glad a second one doesn't count as two points!

So that likely means the Gozanti will be 2 Epic points.

Well I'm a little disappointed

I had hopes they would have ruled it that a player has to field at least 2 pts of epic ships.

If there was to be epic tournament play I fear many may just spam cheap hlc, and ordnance carrier's.

4 shuttles with hlc is 112 pts.

2 Firespray with hlc 80.

Jonus

2scimatar with pulse missles and extra munations

3 tie fighters is 292 pts.

Going up against someone that invests 125 plus pts in one ship is a pretty tough battle.

I've basically have done this and is why i stopped playing epic until the imperials came out

I'd have 7 small/large ships and 1 huge against 12 and they hit hard

I'd kill some, but not enough before my opponent would just level my huge ship.

Disappointed they didn't make it a rule to have to field x amount of epic points

I hope they rule that Jonus and Howl (particularly Jonus) don't affect Epics.

What about the Rebel HWKs? They can buff the CR-90.

What about Jendon?

Well considering it is the counterpart to the Rebel CR-90 one can assume it would be 3 epic points. But yes it is nice to make it official.

As for the Gozanti Class Imperial Carrier I am going to take a guess and say it will cost 2 epic points since it is a 1 card section ship and it the counterpart to the rebel transport.

I hope they rule that Jonus and Howl (particularly Jonus) don't affect Epics.

And also Roark Garnett or Swarm Tactics. A fully Loaded Corvette firing at PS 12 would be very overpowered in my opinion

Never found it to be

I've used roark a few times to boost my cr90 to ps12

Along with swarm tactics on another ship to pass it over.

Guess I worded that wrong

Used roark to boost a ship to ps12 them swarm tactics on Cracken. So he gives Tantive ps12

One thing in found in some games I ran low ps ships in order to field as many ships I could with couple high ps ships.

My opponent flew more ships and at higher ps. Either mid to high, and therefore would get to shoot before my blue squadron.

With so many ships my blue squadron didn't even get to shoot.

It's not like that every game. But I decided I needed more high ps, and found I was putting roark in every epic rebel squad

Requiring epic points to be spent would disqualify Scum entirely. Even if they had a Huge ship, IG-88ABCD is the very definition of a scum build that absolutely should be legitimate, so you'd want to be careful you didn't disqualify them.

The real problem is that the huge Epic ships are simply underpowered for serious play; I personally feel it's insufficient durability. Perhaps they expected the re-enforce action to have a more consistent effect than it does; my favored houserule (which isn't perfect; Good Hope has some troubling quirks to it) is that Epic ships ignore 1 damage card per attack from non-Epic ships. So shields can go down, but hulls don't crumple nearly as quickly.

That rider is to encourage capitals to slug it out with lots of guns, of course. :)

Ya that's true, it would leave out scum which kind of sucks.

But those ships die so fast.I mean ignore your opponents squad, focus fire the huge ship, you may lose some but not enough to make up for the huge beast you just took off the table

Edit

Unlike a 100 pts game if you play to conservative and have a couple of ships our of firing range then your really hurting

One game it took me 3 or more turns to get one squad into the action.

Due to the 6' board length, I set up the Tantive and one squad near it on one side and another squad on the other side.

That was a learning experience. And by the time that other squad made it into the battle I took some heavy losses

At least in a 100 pt games one ship out of the action isn't a total loss

Now that Tactician has been made limited, it is probably time for comms booster to get the same treatment. The Biggs/Comms Booster combo is a bit too abusive. Making Comms Booster limited doesn't prevent it entirely but makes it much harder to do.

Realisically it will be up to the TO to dictate that you must use epic points if able. It is really the only way to play an epic event. Not sure how you accomodate Scum (other than the fact that a 4 Aggressor build will rip up all epic ships rather quickly).

I was honestly expecting them to not allow Fleet Officer on huge ships.

Why would they

I was going to like, I aggree that Biggs/Comms Booster is quite strong. But hey, that's what those 6 dice at range 5 are for. Even with an evade and focus and at 3 agility, it's 6 dice against 4, damage is going to get in. Not entirely agreeing on TOs pushing epic point usage. Let's let the game evolve by itself. Epic is still kinda in its infancy due to having only one faction with Epic ships (up until now).

I was honestly expecting them to not allow Fleet Officer on huge ships.

Why?

* It costs a crew slot (3pts is irrelevant)

* It costs an action, its function overlaps a lot with coordinate, but only works at range 1, not 2 (but gets 2 ships instead of 1), only works with focus tokens... I wouldn't take it anyway.
