NPC Droids and Improving them

By Kirdan Kenobi, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello all,

I used to be pretty active on these forums, but both my groups ended up switching back to pathfinder for the time being.

Playing Imperial assault has got me aching to play Edge again, so I've been looking at things, and had a question I couldn't figure out the answer to on my own.

What are the RAW on purchasing NPC droids like astromechs or protocol droids and modifying them. I don't believe they ever gain xp, but can they be upgraded with cybernetics for instance? Do they follow the same rules for equipment (having it built in) as PC droids?

In the Core Rulebooks themselves, they have a little box in the adversary chapter listing the prices for all of the adversary droids listed. They're treated, more or less, as gear, which usually can not be modified, although the books make no statement either way, I believe. You can just take those adversaries and add the, what is it?, 6 cybernetic cap from making droid PCs, and probably get it to work.

They all have a price/rarity and can be purchased in the same method as any other item.

No real guidance yet on "modifying" them to improve things like skills and abilities.

They can be equipped with gear same as anything, the whole carried/integrated thing is of course up to your GM just like with droid PCs. Cybernetics as well is up to your GM, but off hand there's nothing preventing it.

Droid Party-NPCs are really good for filling skill gaps and otherwise augmenting the PCs. Think things like providing skilled assists and filling roles your party needs and is lacking.
