Calendars...

By RebelDave, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So... what do you see as the 'standard' galactic week/month/year?

I know local systems will have variations, but as a Galactic Standard, what do you use?

Wookieepedia varies from 5-7 days in a week, and 30-35 days in a month.

Its odd I know, but it has a small bearing on a project im working on.

Cheers!

I stay with 7 days in a week, but I haven't made a judgment call on months yet. My first instinct is to standardize at something like 30 days but have 13 months or something.

I go with the Galactic Standard Calendar. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't. This model has been around for decades, with little to zero changes to it. I typically try not to use words like "weeks", and "months" for my group, as it can be confusing. I just let them know how many days a trip will take, or whatever. To me it really doesn't matter how many days it takes for a planet to orbit it's star, each planet will be different, and I find that much detail to not be worth the trouble. I may make mention that the length of day and night is abnormally long or short on a planet, but again, unless it is relevant to the plot, it is not worth the bother for me.

I have never seen mention that a Galactic Standard Week was 7 days long. But in the end, it really doesn't matter much, as long as you are consistent.

Myself, I do use a calendar, or rather several: For the Imperial Standard Calendar I divided the 368-day Coruscant year into eight months of 31 days and four of 30 days (31/30/31 - 31/30/31 - 31/30/31 - 31/30/31); a week has seven days, but none of these has any significance, religious or otherwise.

But, to drive my players crazy, I'm also using a "Nautical Calendar" based on WEG's RPG, where a week has only five days, and a month comprises seven weeks, for things like calculating license fees, shipping contracts, berthing etc.

I put this together a long long time ago (sorry- had to). I can't remember all my sources, so I can't vouch for it's authenticity, but it's the one I use in my games.

This is the Calendar I use in my games.

Cheers guys, very helpful..

Hooly, is it me, or does yours have the Festival of the Stars in the wrong place?

The tables show it right after the Festival of Life, after Month 6, but the blurb says its between Month 9 and 10?

For easyness (that word exists? XD) I use:

Weeks have 7 Days.

Months have 5 Weeks (35 Days).

Years have 12 Months (420 Days)

No "stay alone" days. This helps me a lot XD
