X-Wing Fragile Allegiances

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

Here's a quirky team deathmatch variant I just cooked up.

EDIT: I wrote up the rules in more detail. Here they are.

Each player brings one ship, built however they choose.

This ship MUST be a unique pilot or feature at least one unique upgrade card. In addition to their tokens and that stuff, each player must bring one debris field of their choice.

You may not exceed 33 points when building your ship.

Come up with a few "fallback" ships as uniques will be recognized across all players. If two players bring the same unique pilot or upgrade, the player who spent fewer points on their ship gets to use it. The other player must then resort to a fallback ship/build. If points are tied, choose randomly if players cannot agree on who get's to use the ship/build.

Once everyone has their ship ready, players are divided into two teams as evenly as possible.

Initiative among players will be determined according to points spent, and then randomly in the case of ties. Initiative always goes to the team with the player who is highest on the initiative list.

Teams take turns deciding on where to place 4 asteroids on the field according to normal setup rules.

Then each team sets up their ships on opposite edges of the field.

When you are defeated, place your debris field token on the field where your ship was when it was destroyed.

During the game each ship has two special actions it may perform instead of a regular action. These actions are not considered to be in your action bar nor on an upgrade card.

Defect: ACTION: You switch to the other team.

Recruit: ACTION: Receive one stress token to force an enemy ship within range 1-3 to change to the other team.

If all ships are on the same team, there are no teams and it is a free for all.

Each ship will be assigned a double sided token to show which team it is currently on. Flip this over whenever you switch teams.

Whenever you defeat a ship, you gain points equal to the point cost of that ship+upgrades.

At the end of the game the player with the most points wins.

Last ship alive receives 20 bonus points.

2nd to last ship: 15

3rd: 10

4th: 5

Seems pretty fun, I'll have to give it a go with my gaming club next Tuesday.

Let me know if you try it out. I'm curious how this would go. :)

Will do, I was thinking of putting it at about 35points per person, so that limits it to small ships and a couple odd upgrades.

If we have enough time I'd probably try geberics only and then any pilots, since Vader will be nasty for this, normal action and turn a pilot with the dark side of the force anyone?

Amusing.

It would be frustrating for generics. Get into prime firing position on named higher PS pilot and then BAM, they force you to defect on their turn.

Could be fun.

Updated the rules.

I'm excited to try this format! Long live ATC Vader

I know I'm late to this, but it seems pretty crazy. People will be changing sides over and over again. Or....it might be better to grab someone undamaged from the other side and put them on yours. Ha....or....if you are in a bad spot for the enemy team to shoot you...grab someone that's in their firing arc and have that poor guy get blasted!
